This month’s Wanderlist is brimming with 30 places that are near to truly stunning, unspoiled coastlines. So whether you’re craving some last-minute summer sun or you just need a staycation by the sea, these places will have you dodging the crowds.
Feel like the only person in the world at a white-washed cottage in the Scottish mountains, eat breakfast with a view at your coastal apartment in Nerano or hike to undiscovered Spanish beaches from a medieval hotel in Asturias.
A gorgeous, white-washed hotel on the wild coast of Belle-Île-en-Mer. The island is a real paradise of nature, with quiet, untouched beaches and 104km of coastal paths to enjoy on bike or by foot.
A minimalist villa set in the beautiful Vendicari Nature Reserve on the southern-most part of Sicily’s coast. Just 10 minutes away is Marianelli beach – an isolated beach, lying between almond trees, lemon trees and sand dunes.
A unique bed and breakfast in the middle of the Portuguese countryside and just two miles from the Silver Coast. The small bay of São Martinho do Porto is perfect for a day at the beach, and whilst known to the Portuguese, it still remains off the busy tourist track.
This is the perfect place to unwind – there are heavenly views across to Holy Island, birds soaring overhead and waves nibbling at the bottom of the garden. Nearby is the stunning Bamburgh Castle Beach, which is great for long wind-swept walks at any time of the year.
A beautifully refurbished country-house hotel on the Pembrokeshire coast – the UK’s only coastal national park. St Govan’s chapel, a derelict fisherman’s cottage found amongst the coastal cliffs, is nearby, as is the idyllic Broadhaven Beach and Barafundle Bay.
Come for the utter silence and the rare beauty of this far north-westerly landscape. Arrival is made by boat or seaplane, by which you’ll land on Britain’s only beach runway. Go wild swimming or paddleboarding from your own stretch of white sand – this is a real antidote to city life.
