The Experience
A cork farmer built this sweet 1950s farmhouse for his bride, in the middle of cork woods with stunning views over the hills; drink in the fresh air and listen out for birdsong.
Kathrin lives in the farmhouse just behind, and these two simple self-contained apartments echo her kind character and Swiss origins. Both have fresh white walls, long sofas, sunny bedrooms and spotless little kitchens – if you’re arriving late, ask for the ingredients for your first breakfast to be left for you.
Kathrin will share whatever is ripe and tasty from her abundant organic garden, and you can stock up at the markets or treat yourself to a little restaurant three miles away. There’s a terrace for a breezy beer and a cosy fireplace for winter, heating from solar panels and water from a nearby well. Girona lies one way, the Costa Brava the other, and in between are easy walks linking perfect villages. In summer, there’s a fiesta every weekend.

Location
The neighbourhood
A small road leads from the property to the nearest village, Quart, 6 km away, which has a supermarket, bakery, butchers and fish market, as well as bars and restaurants. The nearest restaurant is Cal Bosqueta, 2.5 km away. You can walk or cycle to Els Angels chapel, 6 km away, where Salvador Dalí married Gala. His birthplace, Figueres, is 45 minutes' drive; Girona and the beach half an hour.
Local points of interest from Kathrin Schmidhauser
- Join our Summer Fiesta: in the late afternoon of the 1st Saturday in August our small community of neighbours forgets for some hours differences and small quarrels to celebrate Summer and Life in the shade of the old oak trees by the church. Come and join!
- The nearest city is Girona, famous for its cathedral and Jewish Quarter. It is a beautiful city to wander around on cobbled streets with great al fresco dining.
- There are various museums and the house and birth place of Salvador Dali.
- There are quiet beaches and charming seaside towns on one side, the Pyrenees on the other.
- You can borrow a GPS from me and walk the woodlands on hidden tracks.

Introducing
Kathrin Schmidhauser
Kathrin moved to the area in 1985 with her family, and used to have a textile atelier and run workshops and courses. She bought the property in 2000, and prides herself in taking great care of it – when the previous owner came to visit she was pleased it was in such good hands.
This is such a fabulous place if you want to get away from it all. Beautiful setting, spotless and charming apartments and a lovely swimming pool. The beaches are 30 mins away and Girona is even closer yet you feel miles away from anywhere. Kathrin is incredibly helpful and we loved every day of our stay in her beautiful villa.
