The Experience
Artists and photographers flock to Lanzarote for its special light; this intimate hotel in the little whitewashed village of Mozaga is a favourite. Charming Maria has lovingly restored her family’s 18th-century house, built on ancient volcanic rock in the very heart of the island. Old family photos and heirlooms remind you it’s a genuine Canarian home, cherished and authentic – staff welcome you in the same hospitable style. Nearby, you can visit the well-known family vineyard with its small museum. Inviting farmhouse style rooms look onto the courtyard and are dressed with fine linen and plain fabrics; bathrooms are beautiful. Enjoy sophisticated Mediterranean and local dishes in the popular and softly lit restaurant, housed in former stables – once the home of a camel! Breakfast is varied, plentiful and delicious. There’s a charming terrace and volcanic garden in which to relax, with a hammock for dreaming in (and a small library with board games if the weather turns). Beaches and markets are close by; couples in search of quiet relaxation and the authentic Lanzarote will be in heaven.

I cannot rate Caserio de Mozaga more highly. The rooms are very comfortable, Maria the owner is very welcoming as are all her staff. The chef in the restaurant produced some spectacular food; we ended up eating there more than we anticipated. In the evening it was great to sit by the fire in the living room with a glass of wine. Being centrally located it was no great distance to any corner of the island. We will be back

Staying in this lovely house, furnished tastefully and traditionally, helped us to feel something of the history of Lanzarote, and all around are the dramatic reminders of the power of nature in the volcanic landscape. Maria is a gracious and extremely helpful host, and we could not have been better looked after by her and her staff. The restaurant is not cheap but the food is very good, and the local wine excellent. A stay at Caserio de Mozaga goes a long way towards experiencing a taste of Canarian life. We loved it.
