La Torre de Villademoros

In meadow land high above the coast stands this elegant retreat – hike down to undiscovered beaches. The original medieval tower is the stuff of local legends; the interiors have been beautified by young welcoming Manolo and his family. La Torre’s 18th-century Asturian exterior gives little hint as to the delights within – the interior spaces are intimate, cosy and hugely appealing. Gleaming wooden or slate floors are the background to sleek sofas and sculpted lighting; warm colours, modern art and an open hearth add depth. Serene bedrooms and private sitting rooms are finished with polished chestnut and pine, bathrooms are sleek and large. (There is a stupendous suite in the three-storey tower, brilliant for families, with a roof terrace right at the top.) Views are grand – over the sea or the lush eucalyptus forests – while the semi-wild grounds encourage wildlife. Enjoy tapas and a glass of wine in the bar, a scrumptious breakfast on the terrace and a coastal path walk to the lighthouse in Busto – superb. Not easy to find but absolutely worth the effort.
