The Experience
Find a slower pace of life here, exploring the green landscapes of Asturias from this beautifully calm and comfortable house.
Step out for good walks from the door, drive to the rugged Picos de Europa mountains, visit attractive regional capital Oviedo or the port of Gijón. Back at the villa, help yourself to tea and coffee in the snug, and borrow guidebooks, games and novels from the library.
Food is a real passion for your hosts: a sumptuous breakfast includes home-baked sourdough breads, cakes, home-made jams and local Asturian cheeses. Book for half board, or just opt for occasional dinners, so you can sample Dave’s superb three course menus, mostly organic and inspired by seasonal and local ingredients. Eat at your own table in the dining room, or in summer out in the lovely sunny garden.

El Gran Sueño is a delight. Our room was elegant and comfortable as were the dining room and lounge areas and all very well maintained. The location is peaceful and there are stunning views of the mountains. Javier and Dave are excellent hosts, friendly helpful and informative. We very much enjoyed the food which is very fresh and locally sourced and Dave's evening meals were delicious, a labour of love. We hope to return soon.

Dave and Javier were very welcoming and knowledgeable on the local area. Our butlers Carson and Franklin were very friendly dogs and we enjoyed their company relaxing in the garden. The hotel was exceptionally clean and tidy and the mountain view from our balcony room were breathtaking! Breakfast was served every morning with home made sourdough bread, the effort and care put into the cooking made the food that extra bit delicious. I enjoyed my book to the sound of cowbells and birds and the natural beauty around the house. Overall our stay was relaxing and care free. Thanks to Javi and Dave!

In honesty I couldn't have been happier with my stay. The room (jardin) was glorious, the food was excellent, the views and walks around the property are sublime and Javier and Dave (who are lovely) work tirelessly away in the background making everything special. You would have to sentence me to life imprisonment to stop me going back.

My husband and I loved our time at El Gran Sueno. Four days of pure pleasure: comfortable, immaculate, imaginatively-created spaces; really delicious breakfasts and dinners, served 'just so'; stunning, invigorating hikes and drives; interesting, wide-ranging talks with Dave and Javier. Along with Carson, they were the best of hosts.

This region of Spain is special. When you reach 'El gran sueño' it's breathtaking. Rooms are beautiful and stylish, very comfortable beds and spotless bathrooms. Breakfast in the quirky dining room or out on the patio with an amazing view of the 'picos de europa' what more can you ask for apart from the homemade sourdough and a different flavour jam and cheese everyday. Then a stunning 3 course meal in the evening, all locally produced and sourced, then cooked by Dave. The attention to detail by both hosts was second to none. Constantly perfecting their art. We felt like we'd visited friends.

Just back from 3.5 weeks in Portugal and Northern Spain and El Gran Sueno was one of the highlights of the trip! After several days in the hustle and bustle of Lisbon and Porto it was so nice to relax and recharge at El Gran Sueno. It is located in a small hamlet that can be a bit challenging to find, but well worth the drive. Beautiful location and wonderful service from Dave and Javier, who both truly enjoy having guests. We stayed two nights in the Galeria room with large windows overlooking the countryside. The attention to design was very apparent, with the Pantone color swatches for

Simply the best! It is located in a small hamlet that can be a bit challenging to find, but well worth the drive. Beautiful location and wonderful service from Dave and Javier, who both truly enjoy having guests. The attention to design throughout the guesthouse was exceptional. Large bathroom with a wonderful shower and nice bath products. We were fortunate to enjoy two excellent dinners prepared by Dave and elegantly served by Javier. Breakfast was also very nice with homemade breads, cakes, jams, delicious local cheeses and a different artistically arranged fruit plate each morning!

We loved El Gran Sueno; a wonderful place to stay! The bedrooms are spacious, with large beds, top quality bed linen and all modern comforts. The bathrooms are very special with high class fittings and lovely toiletries. The whole house has been decorated beautifully and with great sympathy, the outside space is large with wonderful views of the Picos mountains. Nothing is too much trouble for Dave and Javier, they are truly gracious hosts and great company, (Carson too!!)! The food, both breakfast and dinner was sublime. This is a very special place and we will definitely return.

A truly special place.... the house is a beautiful and eclectic mix of vintage and modern style. Every piece of furniture is carefully chosen or restored. There are quirky artworks on the soft grey walls and breath-taking views of the mountains from every window. Comfort and luxury are at a premium, from the thoughtfully provided fluffy robes in the guest bathrooms, to the Bose speakers in the room, enormous comfortable beds, anti-mist mirrors, the complimentary bottle of wine ... I could go on forever ! The garden is wonderful, Dave's meals are mouth-watering and the owner are pure gentlemen!

Location
The neighbourhood
You are in a quiet hamlet deep in rural Asturias, with beautiful walks from the house. Dave can show you routes, lend maps and you can follow directions via a mobile app to make navigation easy. Views towards dramatic mountain ranges from the garden might inspire you to visit - the Picos de Europa National Park is 45 minutes by car and El Sueve 25 minutes. To eat out, drive 10-15 minutes to Infiesto and try Pušáki's excellent tasting menu.
Local points of interest from Dave Haxby
- Pintueles is a walker´s paradise and a typical Asturian village, with an 18th century church, a proud collection of hórreos, and home to the El Sidrón nature reserve. Stroll through forests, spot wild boar or deer, soaring eagles and wild flowers.
- Asturian gastronomy is famed throughout Spain for its quality. Sample authentic foods in the collection of traditional sidrerías and chigres or treat your palate to the real deal in one of the 1 or 2-star Michelin restaurants close by.
- An all-year-round extravaganza of traditional village festivals including: the Hazelnut Festival, craft & farmers markets, Easter parades & Infiesto´s very own Feria de Abril, a small, but equally entreating version of Sevilla´s most famous festival.
- Romanesque churches of Santa María (Villamayor) and San Juan de Berbío (Infiesto) line a stretch of the Camino de Santiago for pilgrims walking in-land from Covadonga to Oviedo. Infiesto is also home to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Cueva.
- Piloña is home to the rare ¨caballo Asturcón¨, a bread of horses native to the El Sueve Nature Reserve and Monte Cayón, where there is a picnic area with BBQs and walks through forests and hilltops offering impressive views of the Picos de Europa.

Introducing
Dave Haxby
Multilingual Javier, originally from nearby Gijón, was a language teacher in the UK, and Dave an IT solutions specialist. Together they took the leap to sell up, hunt for a house and redesign it for guests. Dave leads with flare in the kitchen, Javier looks after the rest immaculately, and has a host of local knowledge. Together they and their lovable dog Carson give guests a great welcome. They are passionate about Asturias and what they do.
EL Gran Sueño is a most beautiful country hotel. Located in a peaceful hamlet with amazing views. The bedroom we stayed in (Jardin) was delightful with a large bathroom room with lovely toiletries. Nothing is too much trouble for Dave and Javier, they are excellent hosts. We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts of local produce, Dave’s sourdough is the best I’ve ever tasted. Dinner was wonderful, lovingly prepared by Dave and in a delightful setting. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Our stay was so relaxing and most definitely the best place we stayed in during our 4 week trip. We would love
