The Experience

Find original floor tiles, high ceilings with chandeliers, some thickly beamed ceilings and perfectly restored shutters and doors in this very comfortable house. Downstairs are three bedrooms, an elegant dining room and a sitting room with its old fireplace. The kitchen is super swish and you’re left tortillas, local hams and cheeses, fruits and vegetables hand picked from the owners’ garden, and all the basics like oil and herbs.

Upstairs are three more immaculate bedrooms and another sitting room with graceful velvet chairs and a huge TV. All bedrooms have zip and link beds and en suite bathrooms with organic soaps and lotions and fluffy bathrobes. Through the dining room is a cobbled courtyard with high whitewashed walls, an ingenious plunge pool and a stone table for 12. On the upper level is a sun terrace.

Step through large wooden doors and into town for a dose of lively local chatter and a coffee in the main square.

Reviews

The Yellow House is an explosion of fun, creativity and interior design. Everything has been chosen with care and each compliments the other. Soaking in the glass-sided heated plunge pool under those clear Andalusian skies, I can't imagine anywhere more restorative and would return in a heartbeat.

Location

The neighbourhood

Higuera de la Sierra has three good restaurants, a handy mini-market and a bigger supermarket, a farmers' market and an assortment of tapas bars. The largest town nearby is Aracena, declared a place of cultural interest in 1991. You're inside the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park for wonderful walks or cycles in the countryside. Taste gin, visit potteries, stock up on delicious local food and wine.
