The Experience

This lodge on stilts (to catch all the views) stands alone in 22 acres of manicured grounds looking across the Serrania de Ronda mountain range. The plateau is studded with pueblos blancos (white villages) and criss-crossed with excellent hiking, horse riding and cycling trails. Navigable rivers are perfect for canoeing.

All seven bedrooms have en suites; some have fireplaces. Gather friends or family for a party or special occasion and don’t lift a finger – massages, yoga and treatments can all be arranged; chill out by the pool; plan your evening menu with suggestions from expert chefs. Eat fresh, local, mostly organic suppers by candlelight on the elegant patio.

The sister hotel and restaurant, with its doors open to you is a ten-minute drive. Ronda is a short drive, as well as the bridge, the bullring, Arabic baths and Moorish Palace (La Casa del Rey Moro) it has plenty of tapas bars – the regional special is Rondeño chorizo, delicious bite-sized paprika-infused sausages.

Location

The neighbourhood

The lodge is up a dirt track, but as you reach the estate gates a sense of calm pervades. It’s a 15-minute walk to the nearest village and a 20-minute drive to dramatic Ronda. The town is built across the mountains with a bridge, the Puente Nuevo, spanning a huge gorge carved out by the Río Guadalevín. Birthplace of modern bullfighting, brought to life in Goya’s paintings, the bullring Plaza de Toros is now a museum. There are enough cobbled streets, ancient buildings, leafy plazas and gardens to keep you entertained for a long time. The Serranía de Ronda mountains are full of walking, cycling and horse-riding trails.

Introducing

Pom & Christina Piek

The Ronda mountains wrapped Christina and Pom in its spell and they realised their dream: a blissful retreat encircled by olive groves, ten minutes out of town. Christina is the 'spark', a charming woman who has decorated the area's first boutique hotel with cool, understated elegance. Pom is born to the role of host: a raconteur by nature and a connoisseur of wine.
