The Experience

Malaga Hills is set on the bottom of a hill in a small hamlet and is very much about healthy living with oodles of comfort. The spacious bedrooms are on the top floor of the hotel, and all have terraces, good coffee machines and fridges. Downstairs, you’ll find the lounge and the library, a gym area and a pool with an endless swimming machine. Ruud is your main contact and is available all day to help organise dinner reservations and give advice on the local area – particularly the excellent hiking routes from the door.

Browse the library with over 3000 books, get a free massage from Evita the robot (just ask!) have beauty treatments or simply read on the lovely terrace. Breakfast includes fruit, local yogurt, cheeses, hams, eggs and pastries, and there are pretty views from the terrace out towards hills dotted with white-washed villas, the La Maroma mountain peak, and down to the coast.

Reviews

Very comfortable boutique hotel with amazing views and excellent facilities. Spotlessly clean. The size of bed with a choice of pillows ensures a good nights sleep. Excellent team who are always on hand and offer expert advice for any activity and restaurants. Highly recommend.

Patricia, Little Gaddesden

We cannot recommend Malaga Hills highly enough. This beautiful, small, adults only hotel, has stunning views of Competa and the beauty of the surrounding area. Nothing is too much trouble for hosts Vreneli and Ruud and their small team Estrella and Estela. From a gorgeous breakfast set over looking the stunning the hills, yoga practice or a massage, to their knowledge of hikes in the area and local restaurants which they will happily book for you. Our room was large, the bed also and very comfortable. A dip in the heated pool is a must as is the infrared sauna. We will definitely return!

Zoe, London

Excellent hosts who greet you every morning and advise on local day trips or local walks. Very helpful with reserving and recommending restaurants. Lovely boutique hotel with all the amenities we needed plus more like indoor swimming pool, sauna and massage chair named Isabel ! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying here.

Murali, Derby

Simply outstanding. We cannot rate Malaga Hills highly enough. Vreneli, Ruud and the amazing team of Estrella, Noemi and Estelle could not have made us feel more welcome. The location is absolutely stunning - views that go on for miles to the sea in the distance. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have every slept in and the attention to detail in every respect was simply extraordinary. For anyone wanting to hike in the area, Vreneli has produced a 'bible' of local hikes. We did 5 of them over the course of our 6 days there and all were fantastic. We cannot recommend highly enough.

Mark, Winchester

We went on a 4-night relaxation break and our stay was perfect from start to finish! We used the pool and spa facilities, we enjoyed some superb hikes and in the evening, we went into the town and ate at some lovely restaurants recommended by Ruud and Estrella. The village has a lot to offer and is a must-see. Vréneli and Rudd have built an amazing place, and both Estrella and Estela were amazing. We enjoyed breakfasts every day. Tasty local and homegrown produce with a cava (not mandatory obviously). Our room was spotless each time we'd come back from our day trip. We will be back!

Pauline, Brighton

A pleasant place to stay where the owners do their very best to make you feel welcome. The rooms are large and comfortable with lovely bathrooms and the views will no doubt leave you feeling relaxed from sunrise to sunset.

Location

The neighbourhood

The hotel is situated on a quiet, residential no-through road. It’s peaceful, with the gentle sounds of birds, crickets, and a distant barking dog. A ten-minute walk takes you to various dining options and small shops. There are several restaurants in the Roman square with inviting terraces where you can dine outside even during mild winters. The village is bordered by a nature reserve, the Tejeda and Almijara Natural Park. There are numerous short trails and longer ones that meander by the river, along the coast, or high up in the mountains. The owners can give you lots of tips on good walks and you're just two hours from ski-ing on the Sierra Nevada slopes..

Local points of interest from Vréneli & Ruud
