The Experience

A deeply rural spot for this sparkling white cortijo with a central courtyard. The hub of the house is the high-ceilinged, open-plan living area with a kitchen at one end, a library at the other and very comfortable seating in between. Colours are warm, there are many good books and a happy mix of furniture and art will make you feel relaxed – there’s no standing on ceremony here.

Five colour-themed bedrooms (four can be twins) are stonkingly comfortable with hefty mattresses, soft cushions and lovely views. Bathrooms are en suite with powerful showers (one also has a bath) and even the loos are open-plan so you’ll need to lack inhibitions.

Wake to scrumptious breakfasts: home-baked grain bread, homemade jams, pancakes and eggs from their chickens, bacon from the local butcher. Set off on wonderful walks or cycles, doze by the pool or head to the yoga platform, enjoy a Reiki session in the gypsy wagon or simply relish the quiet.

Lovely cortijo restored with passion and set in a stunning landscape. All furnishings have been painstakingly selected with particular attention paid to colour schemes. Location

The neighbourhood

The views stretch down the valley to Jimena in the distance and even Gibraltar on a clear day. Hiking is wonderful and there are guides for you to borrow. There are some shops and eateries in San Pablo de Buceite (eight miles). River swimming in Estación de Gaucín (20 miles) is idyllic; Gaucín (13 miles) has a choice of restaurants – Azulete for fine dining and Fructosa for traditional Spanish.

  • Our Permaculture project is one of a kind in Andalusia. Come and walk around the gardens and ask Nicolas to share his knowledge with you!
  • Our Yoga platform is hidden amongst the trees and has an absolutely breathtaking view. Yoga, Pilates, meditation… on a really amazing spot.
  • Ask Valentina for a Reiki or Equicoaching session with her horses or donkeys. Get grounded or benefit from energetical healing amongst nature and animals.
  • There are more than 60 beautiful hiking tours around the house! Breathtaking scenery!!

Introducing

Valentina & Nicolas Brusselmans

Valentina (a librarian, now a Reiki practitioner and equine therapist) and Nicolas (in telecoms but now paints) spent many wonderful years in Belgium working and growing their family. As soon as this eco-conscious pair found the Cortijo they knew it was just right for them – their mission is a holistic one, to nurture a profound connection between individuals, communities and the environment.
