The Experience
This back-to-nature retreat, just an hour north of Seville, is wrapped in ancient landscape: six hectares of Mediterranean dehesa (pasture) peppered with mature holm and cork, mighty oaks, wild olive trees and limestone rocks. You’re in the heart of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Anoche Natural Park, where kites, eagles and vultures are commonly seen. At night, stars blanket the skies, thanks to a total lack of light pollution.
Three whitewashed, one-storey properties, built using local stone, are privately positioned to soak up panoramic valley views. Each includes two bedrooms (a double and a twin), a spotless shower room, compact kitchen and an open-plan living/dining room, plus a shaded outdoor space with a barbecue and bench on the gravel.
Days will be spent feeling languid, lounging in the shade of the trees or floating in the shared pool. You’re just 2km from the local village for restaurants, a bakery and weekly market.

Location
The neighbourhood
The nearest village, Higuera de la Sierra, has plenty to offer including tapas bars, restaurants and an award-winning bakery. Don't miss a visit to the market on Sunday to pick up fresh, local produce and watch village life in action. The entire area is awash with vibrant towns including Zufre, Alájar and Valdelarco. Visit the Almonaster la Real Mosque, a well-preserved 9th-century hilltop mosque.
Local points of interest from Carlos Roldán Ordóñez
- Share with the locals the walk from Las Tobas to Higuera and enjoy authentic moments of rural Andalusian life, while enjoying the calm landscape.
- Take your time while having breakfast in the sun and listening to the birds singing, and after 50 minutes drive, enjoy Seville, the city/monument that will make you fall in love.
- Pay attention to Bilbo Baggins: ‘It is dangerous, Frodo, to cross your door. You put your foot in the road, and if you don't watch your step, you never know where it may lead you. And immerse yourself in the immense network of paths in our Natural Park.
- Prepare your palate to savour the local cuisine of the famous Iberian pig. In restaurants, markets, bars... or at the Las Tobas barbecue, you can enjoy the best acorn-fed Iberian ham and the tastiest meats. As well as mushrooms, cheeses, stews, wines...
- Do you want to see the most impressive places in the region? Villages, caves, castles, viewpoints, birds... We will give you all the information you need! And if you prefer, we have the best local nature and culture guides to accompany you.
- Come up to our ‘era’ and enjoy the night sky awarded as a Starlight Reserve. 360º views in one of the skies with the least light pollution in Spain. The sensation is unique.

Introducing
Carlos Roldán Ordóñez
In 2010 Carlos' parents built the properties to escape the bustle of Seville. He now manages the place and is a nature and bird watching guide. Contact him if you would like to arrange a guided walk or special meal.
I was amazed at the forest grounds and views at Casas Rurales Las Tobas. It is a place to enjoy unspoilt nature, starry skies, great birdwatching, natural parks and the beauty of real Andalusian traditional villages.
