The Experience

Lie back with drinks and tapas by the pool, immerse yourself in the silent beauty of Spain. Tucked into the mountainside with only the odd bird or goat for company, there is nowhere more relaxing in Almeria. The house is an authentically, beautifully modernised cortijo, with an ancient front door and a big cushioned veranda at the back. Inside is equally charming. A striped rug on old tiles; a decorative mirror on a whitewashed wall; shuttered windows to keep out the sun. The sitting/dining area is simple and open plan, with logs by the fire for winter stays. The kitchen is rustic Mediterranean, with all the basics – from small oven/grill to essential coffee maker – opening to the veranda with a super big table and a built-in barbecue. A double bedroom, and the house bathroom, are downstairs; the rest are up, each with a white draped bed beneath a dark cane ceiling, hanging shelves with rails and bedside tables. Tear yourself away – you can try! – for secluded coves, a big beach at Mojácar, and lovely authentic eateries in sleepy Bedar, 5km down the steep winding road.

Reviews

I have stayed with a group of friends at the beautiful Sasosa for many years and never tire of the amazing view looking to the hill opposite the infinity pool. The house is a fabulous contemporary and simple in design lending itself to the village. The tranquillity of the house is second to none, feeling like you have totally escaped, no noise, just peace, views, sun. We love Badar a little village a short drive away, having paella at Mirimar. Antas is nearest town for supplies etc supplies etc. Mojacar - 20 min drive has a beautiful old town, supermarkets and lovely restaurants & beaches.

Joanne, Bedford

Sasosa is such a peaceful and beautiful place. It was the perfect location for a wonderful girls weekend where we properly relaxed and enjoyed some quality time together.

Local points of interest from Philip Saunders

  • Wake up to peace and quiet, enjoy breakfast in the outside Terrace room. Spend the day lounging in the sunshine or dipping in the pool. When your ready to explore take a walk to see what the local farmers are growing on their terraced gardens.
  • And if it gets too hot, wander to the nearby waterfall and swim in its crystal blue pool. At lunch time listen out for the van coming up the hill beeping its horn, it is will be selling delicious fresh local food.
  • As the sun decides to think about setting, enjoy an early drink on the terrace watching the swifts dive the pool for their own refreshment! For an evening meal, enjoy cooking on the barbeque or create your own spanish paella using the Paella stand.
  • And if you do not feel like cooking at all, let us arrange a cook for you! Alternatively pop out to the local towns of Bedar or Antas for a traditional Spanish meal, pizza or tapas. Further is Mojacar with plenty of restaurants to choose from.
  • If you feel like dancing or staying up late with the locals you are bound to find something fun going on in the towns or on the beaches. Make sure you check for festivals before you go, because the Spainish love to party!
  • For trips out from the house, there is so much to embrace. However my top 5: The water park in Vera, The Fishing port and fish restaurants in Garrachua, Gabo de Gato, Mini Hollywood in Tabernas, The markets of Mojacar or Garrachua .So much to enjoy!
