The Experience

Bask beneath the palms, relax on the jasmine scented terraces. Crickets hum, birds sing, and lush gardens drop to a plant-filtered pool.

30 acres of olive and citrus groves make up this big relaxed finca, which is wonderful for a group. Inside the house, rooms are bright with tapestries, antiques and books, and a sense of airy comfort prevails. There’s air con in the bedrooms, en suite bathrooms, dining areas inside and out. There’s even a yoga studio in the grounds – ask Caroline about their group yoga retreats.

Almería is one of the sunniest, warmest regions in Europe, so pick a book from the library and soak up the glorious sunshine around the pool, even in the winter. It’s a 30-minute drive to the sandy beaches and coves of the Cabo de Gata for swims in crystal clear waters, such as on the Playa de los Genoveses. For watersports, head for pretty Agua Amarga.

Reviews

I so enjoyed my stay at Finca del Alamo last spring in such a beautiful and tranquil setting. I had never picked a lemon from a tree before! Flowers everywhere I looked. The beaches are unspoilt and beautiful. The local towns are full of interest. The house is cool and elegant, with every comfort considered. I could have stayed so much longer than a week and still have found many things to do and enjoy. Convenient connections to the UK via nearby Almeria airport.

I have been fortunate enough to visit Finca del Alamo several times over the years. The house is full of charm and sits amongst olive and citrus groves. It is 30 minutes’ drive from Almeria airport and nearby sandy beaches. The perfect destination in which to unwind, swim in crystal clear seas and relax by the swimming pool with a good book from the house’s extensive library. I look forward to returning soon to join one of the many yoga retreats held each year.

Groups of family or friends are in for a treat here: live life in the slow lane with spectacular views, a natural pool, unspoilt beaches nearby and plenty of sunshine. The ideal place to recharge and disconnect.

Almeria in South east Spain is off the usual tourist track, which is its charm. Close to the historic village of Nijar, known for its crafts, the Finca is set in a large private estate with striking views of both the sea and the mountains. It is perfect for walks, a relaxing read or al fresco dining. The perfect getaway for a week

I was lucky enough to stay at Finca del Alamo with a group of friends this year. Set in this beautiful and unspoiled area of Spain, it proved an idyllic retreat on a private estate. the al fresco dining area is perfect for convivial dinners against a picturesque mountain backdrop and romantic sunsets. The village of Nijar is within walking distance, and provides a genuine taste of authentic Spanish life. I highly recommend the Finca, it is excellent value for money and I am planning to return with friends in the not too distant future…

The Finca Del Alamo provided a holiday haven with friends at the end of the season. Very comfortable and well equipped, there were endless places to curl up with a book, flower scented terraces for eating and relaxing. It is a short drive to the beach with scenic walks through the hills.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is Clint Eastwood country, where the Wild West movies were made. Turning off the tarmacked road, there's a 300m gravel track to the finca. From your lush gardens you can see the Arabic watchtower of Níjar (2km), built at the foot of the mountains - and the sea beyond. You can buy pottery and textiles there in the village, as well as good artisanal bread, fish and meat. Supermarkets are 20 minutes away, Almería airport is 30.

Local points of interest from Caroline & Pierre De Cabarrus

  • The finca is home to 30 acres of palms, citrus and olive groves – taste the delicious organic olive oil we produce here. In the night time, what about about an evening astronomy walk/talk on a nearby beach? How lovely.
  • The studio is available on site for yoga groups – or you can also come for one of the retreats of either culture & cooking for groups of 8+ or yoga, plus trip to the beaches and local sites of interest.
  • We experience some of the warmest winters in Europe here – perfect for a longer stay in low-season. You can even go skiing in the Sierra Nevada - about a 2-hour drive.
  • The finca is near to the only undeveloped coastline in Spain – these beaches are far from the crowds, with wide unspoilt expanses of sand, here in the national park. Hire boats, discover the coves; explore the local village of Nijar - known for its crafts
  • Golf courses are nearby, as well as the unique theme park in Tabernas (The Oasys MiniHollywood) where iconic spaghetti westerns were filmed (think Clint Eastwood!). There are twice-daily live shoot-outs - great for the kids - plus a water park to cool off.
  • Almeria sees over 320 sunny days per year! And it’s home to Europe’s only desert, El Desierto de Tabernas. This amazing expanse of sand dunes and mountains is a 45-minute drive.

Introducing

Caroline & Pierre De Cabarrus

Caroline and Pierre came here 30 years ago, created the grounds, produced olive oil, and raised a family. They have four members of staff to maintain the grounds, house and pool – you may spot the housekeeper’s dogs very occasionally. Should you tire of cooking, they can recommend a vegetarian chef. Caroline lives mostly in the UK and Pierre is based on site but often away if the house is rented.
