The Experience

The countryside of northern Portugal and its great outdoors is a dream for adventure lovers. Explore, on foot or by bike, a patchwork of fragrant pine forests and gorges, streams and seasonal bursts of colour from abundant trees along the Lima River valley. It’s home to an impressive array of wildlife including deer, wolves, otters and Garrano ponies.

You stay on a 28-hectare rural vineyard and beef farm, set on a plateau with rippling views over the valley and hills. The casas are rustic and homely with oodles of space for families and groups. Carefully revived, the buildings nod to the past but include everything you need for a super holiday. Cook and eat together, inside or out, splash in the shared pool, wander through the woods to the river.

Take a stroll around pretty Ponte de Lima (8km) to stock up on delicious local produce, barbecue back at base, or take a night off and book a meal and wine tasting on the farm.

Casa de Luou is split into two houses, one above the other, with an external stone staircase for access to the upstairs. Two of the beds on the ground floor are best suited for children

A very beautiful house in magnificent surroundings, well decorated and very comfortable. Very spacious rooms with wonderful views, lovely spaces to relax and a pool. The peace at the end of the day is particularly pleasant here. Exceptional cleanliness. The location is perfect for travelling around the north of Portugal – it’s within easy reach of motorways. Just next to the property, there’s a lovely walk you can do along the river Lima (Ecovia) for several km.

An 18th century manor house, remodeled in 2012. Cozy, with stunning green views over the Lima River valley, with cattle in the landscape. On-site parking. Comfortable accommodation, equipped kitchen. Self-catering stay, but with the possibility of requesting homemade and traditional meals. You can relax by the pool, or walk through the woods and vineyards. You will feel at home!

Location

The neighbourhood

It's 8km to the 'oldest village in Portugal,' cross over the Lima river on a medieval bridge to enter town. Here you'll find shops and bars and a twice-monthly market. There's also a bakery, small grocery shop and restaurant within walking distance of the farm. You're under 30 mins from the mountainous National Park with its verdant hillsides, sky-piercing peaks and granite outcrops. Braga is 45km.

Local points of interest from Filipe Malheiro Reymão

At 600 meters, at the end of the Quinta, there is a pedestrian path (ecovia) where you can take walks along the river and see natural landscapes, discovering the water mills of Gemeeira.
At 8 km, visit the villages of Ponte de Lima and Ponte da Barca, with their very present rural traditions and participate in the festivals and pilgrimages, with lots of entertainment, as well as the typical fairs.
Spend a different day through hills and valleys, visiting the typical stone granaries of Soajo, the terraces of Sistelo or the Monastery of "Senhora da Peneda".
Take advantage of the good weather and go to one of the many beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, accessible by highways (40 kms - 20 minutes).
Take the opportunity to visit Santiago de Compostela, feel the spirituality of the old cathedrals on the way to Santiago, namely Tuy and Braga.
Of all the neighboring cities, we highlight Guimarães, which was the capital of Portugal in the 12th century, but we also recommend a visit to Viana do Castelo and Barcelos.

Filipe Malheiro Reymão

The Reymão family have lived and farmed here since 1912, when the quinta was handed down from Maria, the current owner Filipe and his brothers' great-grandfather's sister. They converted the 18-century manor houses into holiday homes in 2012 and are committed to sustainable farming and growing practices. Filipe is on hand if you need anything during your stay.
