Self-catering & holiday cottages in Devon
A good self-catering place can and should have as much personality as any hotel, B&B or pub with rooms. Of course, it’s important to know how many beds there are and what the bathrooms are like, but those aren’t the things that make a stay great. You want generous welcome hampers, great local tips for things to do and genuine character, as if you’re staying at a good friend’s house. That’s what we look for when we inspect and what you’ll find in our Devon collection.
Pubs with rooms in Devon
The pub with rooms has come a long way, even in the last few years. Just as gastropubs have raised the bar when it comes to food in every local (although thankfully there’s still room for a classic pie and mash here and there) small-scale hotels and a few pioneers have led a charge towards what is now, essentially, a hotel/pub crossover. In most Sawday’s pubs with rooms, the food is a bit more casual and the setting more relaxed than a hotel restaurant. There are usually hand-pulled ales, dogs lying about and the sense of being wrapped in the convivial hubbub of locals, hikers and diners all meeting in a community’s focal point.
Hotels in Devon
A hotel that delights you with its style and service shouldn’t be a rare treat, it should be the norm. Sadly, small-scale hoteliers are increasingly squeezed out by major chains and booking platforms. We work only with independent business owners who pour passion into their places. We run on a membership basis, putting you directly in touch with them and taking no commission or booking fee from anyone, meaning if you find a place through us and book direct with the owner, you’ll be staying somewhere special and standing up for the little guys.
Bed & Breakfast in Devon
There’s an absolute art to running a great B&B. You have to be superb at making people relaxed and comfortable, knowing when they want conversation and when they might not. It also helps if you know your way around the kitchen. When we inspect our places, it gives us the chance to chat to the owners and learn things that you could never get from an application form or photos. We have a look round the rooms, of course, but it’s equally important that we feel like you’ll be warmly welcomed. Sadly, we don’t always get to try the breakfasts, although we do love a bit of menu chat.
