The Experience
A restful, almost spiritual calm emanates from this wonderful home. In a medieval hamlet, the locanda has all the beams and antique tiles you could wish for. Light, airy rooms with pale limewashed walls are a perfect foil for the exquisite reclaimed doors and carved hardwood furniture from Bali and Indonesia; your charming hosts have picked up some fabulous pieces from far-off places and have given the house a colonial feel.
Each bedroom is different and bathrooms are gorgeous, with deep baths and walk-in, glass-doored showers. The pool is spectacular, like a mirage clinging to the side of the hill; and there’s a huge lime tree. Breakfast is big with home-baked breads and cakes, homemade jams, salamis, cheeses, eggs to order. You can have a surprise dish at lunch and a 4-course tasting menu in the evening.
Spend your days relaxing in the wellness areas or sunbathing by the pool, although the walks are spectacular.

I came to Locanda Del Gallo to host a business retreat. Our experience at LDG was excellent. The staff made sure we were taken care of and they handled all of our requirements easily. The facilities were gorgeous and well taken care of. The food was delicious and suited our group's needs as we had many unique dietary requirements. Paola helped us coordinate an excursion and made the details very simple. I highly recomment Locanda and will definitely be returning! It is a wonderful place to visit for fun or to lead a group retreat.

I've been to the Locanda many times since 2001 - a few times with a yoga retreat & then a several times on my own or with a friend - & each visit was spectacular. I recently returned with my husband and 2 children; though my vacation needs are very different with a family, it more than lived up to my incredible memories of the place! Owners Paola & Irish have created a haven of peace and respite - whether you are looking to visit the region with its beautiful surrounding towns, or to just kick back by the salt water infinity pool & revel in Chef Jimmy's cuisine -the Locanda is extraordinary!!!

Location
The neighbourhood
You're up in the gorgeous hills in lush green countryside but it's a mere 10-minute drive to the motorway to visit some spectacular medieval towns. Perugia is 20 minutes, Assisi, Gubbio and Foligno half an hour. Todi, Orvieto and Spoleto are about an hour in the car. It's tempting to stay put though and really relax in this beautiful, quiet space.
Local points of interest from Paola Moro & Erich Breuer
- The palazzo was built in 1672, the year Pope Clement X raised Gubbio from a village to a marquisate. After becoming run down after years of disuse, the palazzo was restored in 1995 and reflects the original architecture of the building.
- Umbria is a paradise for nature lovers. We will be delighted to point out the many quiet paths and by-ways waiting to be explored in the valley surrounding the Locanda del Gallo. For those wishing to explore further we have a selection of mountain bikes.
- A Moorish style spa, let your tensions slip away in the Turkish bath and then immerse yourself in the outdoor heated Jacuzzi spa. Our qualified masseuse offers a choice of massages from relaxing to invigorating. An appointment can be booked for you.
- We can book tennis courts 10 minutes away by car and a round on a championship golf course 30 minutes away.
- Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto. All Umbria’s medievial towns are filled with history and treasures. Ancient streets and alleyways are flanked with palaces and elegant houses, delightful shops and boutiques.

Introducing
Paola Moro & Erich Breuer
Paola and Erich have been running this place for many years and have been in the Sawday's collection since almost the very beginning. They are interesting, cultured and warm. They and their well-trained team of staff look after you with great care.
Stunning location. A beautiful and blissfully peaceful valley. The hosts were attentive, but never overbearing. The pool was spotless. We didn't get to sample the spa treatments. Meals on site were simple, but imaginatively prepared. A perfect place to relax and recharge.
