The Experience

These spacious apartments are set on top of a small hill surrounded by forest, with the hamlet of Monticiano just visible through the trees. They share outdoor seating areas and barbecues as well as a swimming pool lined with sunbeds – the feel is blissfully peaceful and remote.

Each apartment has a private entrance and small kitchen and they are typically Tuscan in style, with old brick floors and wood-beamed ceilings. A barn just opposite has a large dining room and sitting room, and a kitchen that you can use if you’re a group; you can arrange for a buffet breakfast too.

A local guide can be booked for walking excursions, and cooking or yoga classes. Walk to Monticiano in about five minutes for a very small supermarket, a pharmacy and a simple restaurant, or drive to San Galgano, 7km away for more choice as well as the ruins of a 13th-century Gothic church, the Abbey of San Galgano.

Reviews

We visited with a group of 16 Persons to celebrate a 30th birthday and everything was just magical. The whole experience was SO nice! Only thing, that we would had known earlier was that music is not allowed after 10 or 11. I would totally recommend this place!

Felix, Bielefeld

Villa Podernovo is an incredibly beautiful property, lovingly taken care of and clean. The individual rooms, the pool, and the shared area are all designed with lots of taste, nice views and perspectives and plants. Highly recommended!

Kathrin, Germany

An island on a hill where you are surrounded by nature, where one easily slips into a world of quiet comfort and life adapts to days where time is measured between sunrise and sunset.

Location

The neighbourhood

Walks are sublime and there’s a good golf course nearby. Discover many many hilltop medieval villages and unspoilt hamlets with wonderful views and delightful lanes winding through verdant countryside. The area is rich in history and among its main sights and attractions are the unique, outstanding Abbey of San Galgano and the Hermitage of Montesiepi which preserves the authentic 'Sword in the Stone'.

Local points of interest from Diana Grandi

  • Villa Podernovo is in the Val di Merse regional park south of Siena, halfway between the Crete Senesi and the Maremma.
  • Siena is known throughout the world for its Palio horserace and incredible artistic heritage. The uniquely beautiful old town has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. All of Tuscany's other art cities are less than two hours away by car.
  • Our villa is an ideal base for visiting some of Tuscany's most magical places, including the stunning Val d'Orcia with many beautiful small towns like Pienza, Montalcino, and Montepulciano.
  • Visit the wonderful Crete Senesi for the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Rapolano and Petriolo Spas, or the Maremma with its wild landscapes and clear blue sea (roughly 60km away).
  • The Abbey of San Galgano and the Hermitage of Montesiepi which preserves the authentic 'Sword in the Stone' are just 7km away. Both are very popular for wedding celebrations, which makes Villa Podernovo a much sought after wedding venue.

Introducing

Diana Grandi

Diana has a small apartment at the rear of the property but does not live there permanently. Her secretary, Grazia, lives locally and is on site in the morning and evening, and otherwise always available should guests need to contact her by phone.
