The Experience

Elisa, a real people person greets you warmly. This is quiet Tuscan countryside and you can hike and bike straight from your door into a nature reserve teeming with wildlife; take a gentle two kilometre amble to an ancient monastery or walk across meadows to the bakers for fresh bread each morning.

The split-level apartments (three in the house where Elisa lives with her children) and two stand-alone barns in the grounds are surprisingly sleek and light-drenched. Each apartment has its own outdoor space with easy furniture so pour yourself a drink and fire up the barbecue.

You could spend your entire holiday exploring Siena’s (six kilometres) architectural delights: the Torre del Mangia 14th-century tower and Gothic Duomo are a couple of highlights. You’re spoilt for good restaurants and cafes too. Back at Casale there’s a dinky ‘dipping’ pool – handy for cooling off after a busy day pounding Siena’s streets.

Reviews

My husband and I shared the “Canopy” house with 2 friends recently. It’s quiet, private, and very comfortable with modern and attractive decor. The setting and views were absolutely gorgeous, as we had hoped for on this trip to introduce our friends to the beauty of Tuscany. The location perfectly met our needs as well, being close to Siena and so many of Chianti’s picturesque towns. We recommend shopping at the Siena Co-op near the train station before you arrive. We really enjoyed a private wine and olive oil tasting at the nearby Azienda Agricola Losi Querciavalle. Mille grazie!

Location

The neighbourhood

Being so close to Siena (6km) is a boon; at its centre is the Piazza del Campo and the Torre del Mangia, a slender 14th-century tower with sweeping views from its distinctive white crown. There are myriad wine-producers radiating around Casale, Elisa can help you choose the best to visit, and a pleasant 2km stroll takes you to an ancient monastery which houses important frescoes from the 16th-century. From the door you’ll find woods, olive-groves and sun-drenched meadows.

Introducing

Elisa Sampieri

Warm, bright Elisa lives in the main house, adjacent to three of the guest apartments, with her young daughters. She adores looking after her guests and is the person you’ll deal with from first contact to checkout. A garden designer who’s worked all over Tuscany she’ll often be found getting her hands dirty in her five acres of garden, usually with a cat lazing nearby or a chicken scratching around – she has two fluffy Silkie birds.
