The Experience

Where to start with this amazing property? There’s the history (once home to the influential Scorzi family, parts date back to 1280), the architecture — an elegant association of medieval, renaissance and opulent 18th-century styles — and the 17 acres of garden, all classical Italian splendour with tinkling fountains, chubby cherubs and contemplative nooks. There’s even a restored chapel should the spirit move you.

Sumptuous en suite rooms overlook the gardens and courtyard. Wander through the palazzo’s carefully restored salons, marvel at the vaulted ceilings and the reception’s vast portico.

Breakfasts are just as fabulous. All the pasticcerie, plus fresh fruit and salads from the garden, local meats and cheeses, homemade breads and fine Italian coffee. Light lunches can be had in the walled conservatory. After a day of sightseeing, the pool beckons, a siesta under the trees perhaps. You’ll never want to leave.

Reviews

I loved the Villa Scorzi. I immediately felt the peace, charm and tasteful luxury of this fine house. The gradual restoration over 20 years shows in the understated and sophisticated decorative choices made in the sumptuous decor, art and furnishings. I'd love to treat myself to a couple of days in one of the suites, dress up like an 18th-century noble, quaff fine wines and wax lyrical about art!

Location

The neighbourhood

Walk to pretty Calci (10 mins) for a good selection of bars, gelateries, cafés and restaurants. Try La Certosa, Margo in Trattoria and Ristorant Il Conventino for hearty Tuscan cuisine. Pisa (20 mins) with all its tilting charms, churches and riverside setting is well worth a visit, while historic Lucca (30 mins) with its cobblestone streets and medieval walls is an easy day trip.

Local points of interest from The Owner

  • Certosa di Calci - The Certosa della Val Graziosa in Calci is located 2km from Villa Scorzi, in a flat area on the slopes of the Pisan mountains. A former Carthusian monastery, it currently houses the Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa.
  • Rocca del Brunelleschi at Vicopisano - Brunelleschi's Fortress is a beautiful example of medieval and Renaissance military architecture, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi in 1438 following the conquest of the village by the Florentines.
  • Leaning Tower of Pisa - The Tower of Pisa is the bell tower of the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, in the famous Piazza del Duomo (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) of which it is the most famous monument due to its characteristic slope, a symbol of Italy.
  • Walled City of Lucca - Lucca’s lively historic core, the Walled City spreads around Piazza Anfiteatro, where cafes and trattorias ring the site of an ancient Roman auditorium.
  • Beaches at Versilia - Versilia is a historical-geographical region of the north-western Tuscan maritime coast within the province of Lucca, and including the territories of the municipalities of Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi, Seravezza, Stazzema.
  • Restaurant Locanda Villamorosa - Located in the medieval village of Caprona, in a nineteenth-century building, the structure opens its doors to those who wish to rediscover the authenticity of the Tuscan cuisine, in a elegant and familiar atmosphere.
