The Experience

The one-storey contemporary steel and glass building makes the most of the wonderful views from the three bedrooms. Walk straight out through sliding glass doors to your own patio with sunbeds, eat at a long wooden table in the dining room or outside under the pergola. There’s also a lovely living room with comfortable mid-century chairs for a quiet read or a game of cards. Lines are clean and the feel is unfussy, minimalist.

Breakfast on fresh breads and jams, local ricotta and other cheeses, yogurt and cereals, sometimes a fruit tart. Dinner can be arranged in advance and will include fresh vegetables from the garden, pastas and Eleonora’s delicious cakes and puddings. You’re right in the thick of the winery here, so tour the cellars, taste thrilling biodynamic wines, learn about the wine story.

A grand spot for walks, you have 20 hectares to roam, or amble 2km into Manciano (which you can see) for shops and restaurants.

Reviews

We stayed for two nights and it was not nearly enough. A beautiful place overlooking the vineyards with a modernist (yet extremely comfortable) touch. The design details are just fabulous. Alessandro and Eleonora are charming yet quiet hosts, passionate about what they do. We had an incredible vegetarian breakfast and dinner on the terrace outside of our room, and were able to try the delicious wines produced on site. The guest house is within close walking distance of Manciano which is a delightful town full of families and with everything on offer. Highly recommended.

Steve, Toronto

Guests will appreciate the easy, informal and intimate ambience at the home of young and amicable couple Alessandro and Eleonora who have recently opened their home to guests with three en suite contemporary bedrooms. Combining their individual passions for organic winemaking and cooking, they invite guests to an enogastronomic experience learning about the local wines and traditional dishes.

Location

The neighbourhood

The best of both worlds here in a silent country setting but walking distance into town for some great restaurants – try La Filanda (truffles, porcini with tagliatelle, Pecorino cheeses). The coast is a 45-minute drive for the Argentario promontory and Tuscan beaches. Take a boat to Giglio Island from Porto Santo Stefano. The thermal springs of Saturnia are 8km – soak in the natural waterfalls.

Local points of interest from Poggio Cagnano

  • Siena and Montalcino are both a 1 hour 30 min drive.
  • It's a 30-minute drive to the Argentario for the seaside and golf club.
  • Drive 15 minutes to Saturnia for the hot springs and golf.
  • Many historical villages like Capalbio, Montemerano, Pitigliano, Sovana & Sorano are within a 20-minute drive.

Introducing

Poggio Cagnano

Alessandro and Eleonora have inherited the wine production here which Alessandro's father began 20 years ago. Alessandro moved down here from Vicenza and has gained much experience in producing artisan wines biodynamically with wild yeast fermentation. Along with Eleonora's amazing culinary skills you are well looked after by this friendly, informal couple.
