The Experience

Playground of the well-to-do, this is where Romans in the know take their holidays. You can see why, it’s a sublime spot, full of well-groomed wine estates, breathtaking beaches and low-slung hills dotted with horses and cattle. And, it’s under two hours from Rome.

Rumble down a country lane, through wooden gates, to arrive at a welcoming family home. Upstairs are four big comfortable bedrooms, two with sweeping views over the manicured gardens. There are four bathrooms, plus a downstairs loo, and extra sofa beds in case the kids bring friends. The house has two living areas with books, games, ping pong, keyboard, and two well-stocked kitchens.

Barbecue on the terrace, lounge in the divine garden, swim some gentle laps around the pool – beautifully illuminated at night. At sunset head to the coast for an aperitivo or a seafood dinner at one of the beach clubs. It’s a ten-minute drive to pretty Capalbio for shops and restaurants.

Reviews

Fabrizio is the perfect host to his lovely house not too far from the beach. We, a party of 7, got to stay a week enjoying the pool and acces to the beach club. If you are really lucky you get to sample olive oil out of his own harvest. 10 out of 10!

We had such a lovely week. Fabrizio was a great host, super helpful and friendly! The house is in the perfect location, a few minutes drive from the sweet nearby village with good amenities and 10 minutes from Capalbio and the incredible beaches. The house is covered in jasmine and smells amazing. Gorgeous views, nice pool. We absolutely loved it!

We (2 families, 4 adults and 4 kids from Germany and Austria) loved it! Generosity is the spirit, it was wonderful. Sleeping, swimming in the pool, sitting in the garden, cooking in the well equipped kitchen, was great, among many many ... other things, going for a run in the vicinity, hiking in the olive tree fields! The beach was close and super nice! We surely want to come back!

Alexander, Vienna

We enjoyed a fantastic week in this villa- so much space that the whole family could spread out over both parts of the house but always able to join together in the communal areas such as the kitchen and lounges- The evening sunsets were a joy drinking a glass or two before heading out to dinner at the nearby picturesque hill town of Capalbio. The pool area is fabulous with great views over the olive trees on the adjoining hills. The house is traditional and everything we wanted for a quiet week away. Thank you

Antony, London

Sublime Maremma, the Roman's best kept holiday secret at just under two hours from the capital city. Fabrizio's casual and comfortable house is a prime base from which to see the long beaches lined by a pine forest reserve to bike through, the spectacular Argentario promontory with islands reached by ferries, scenic countryside, vineyards, medieval villages and archaeological sites to explore.

Location

The neighbourhood

The medieval citadel of Capalbio (11km) is your charming local neighbourhood. The coast is glorious, hop on bikes or horse ride through pine groves, take the ferry over to the Argentario islet and loll about on the Feniglia or Giannella dunes bordered by shimmering lagoons. There are vineyards to visit, tastings to be had and the food is out-of-this-world. If you like seafood try La Selva (6km).

Local points of interest from Fabrizio Arossa

  • The Gaudi-inspired, amazing Tarot Garden (www.ilgiardinodeitarocchi.it), created by visionary artist Niki de Saint Phalle, is a 5-min drive from the house. Walking through the colorful monumental sculptures is a fun experience for the whole family.
  • Drive through the woods on the Tuscan hills to reach the ancient wellspring of Saturnia, where you can bath in natural hot water or join the luxury spa of www.termedisaturnia.it
  • Discover the beauty of Monte Argentario, a promontory stretching into the sea with gorgeous views, fishing villages, upscale restaurants and a lively nightlife.
  • Orbetello is the largest, yet cozy, town in the area, with a lively pedestrian street full of shops and bars. Caravaggio died nearby while waiting for pardon for murder from the Pope.
  • Take a ferry (or rent a private boat) to reach the Island of Giglio, with its pristine beaches, boutique shops and breathtaking views.
  • Take your kids (or your inner kid) to the WWF Oasi di Burano, where you can watch several species of birds and other animals.

Introducing

Fabrizio Arossa

Fabrizio hails from Turin. He bought and restored the house for his family twenty years ago while he lived in Rome, and it retains a much-loved feel. As an international lawyer, he travels frequently and the house has always been a haven and an escape from a busy lifestyle. If he cannot be there to greet guests one of the local caretakers will be there.
