The Experience

There is a peaceful feel to the whole place and while there are quite a number of apartments they each have their own front door and a high three-sided hedge around private seating areas for outdoor meals. Interiors are spacious and clean, some on two floors with steep stairs, all with modern, comfortable furniture, TV and air conditioning. Each have an indoor sitting room and dining area.

Kitchens are well-equipped but have no ovens, simply microwaves and gas hobs but there’s a communal wood-burning oven outdoors available in winter. Most of the time you’ll be outdoors, finding a shady place to sit in the garden, or lounging by the pool. Children will enjoy their own shallow oval section, and the views are over the vines in the valley below. The nearest town is Montaione, 2km, and you can borrow bikes to cycle there for restaurants, bars and good local shopping.

Your welcome basket includes a bottle of the estate wine, olive oil and coffee.

We spent a lovely week at the agriturismo! The apartment was cozy and comfortable with a great view overlooking the property’s vineyards. We were happy to spend time by the swimming pool, where each room has its own corresponding lounge area, which was quite spacious, such that we never felt crowded. Overall, their amenities made for a very enjoyable stay in the Tuscan countryside!

The place is beautiful, with an amazing pool, which we were glad to spend time in as it overlooked an absolutely stunning view of the Tuscan countryside. The owners’ vineyards are right by, and we were happy to have their delicious wine, at a great price. It was perfect for our family holiday as we relaxed by the pool while also visiting a few historic villages close by! It has a beautiful swimming pool,

An enchanting place in the Tuscan hills, ideal for exploring the most beautiful villages and cities in the region. Despite the scorching heat, our air-conditioned apartment and swimming pool overlooking the valley guaranteed us a relaxing stay. Special thanks to Nada for her friendliness and precious advice on restaurants and activities in the surrounding area. An experience I highly recommend!

Agriturismo Rigone is comfortable, family-friendly and ideally positioned to suit almost everyone. The apartments offer every comfort and service without being overly sophisticated, and there is a surprising amount of outdoor privacy for guests considering the number of apartments. The views are beautiful and the calm surroundings of the garden offer total relaxation.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are oodles of lovely walks from the door through beech, oak and yew trees which meander down to the Carfalo stream. You can explore the Benestare Park nearby with marked routes, rocky outcrops and thermal springs. There are excellent cycle routes all around you for mountain bikers and road cyclists. There are stables a short drive away and a good golf course. And plenty of wine tasting.

Local points of interest from Nada Herling

  • San Gimignano is located in the heart of the Elsa valley in the province of Siena, in the region of Tuscany, Italy. Nestled into its high position in the hills, its 14 towers provide this town with a unique skyline that can beat any modern day high rise city.
  • Castelfalfi Golf Club - In the nearest district, Castelfalfi, you can play a round of golf at the Castelfalfi Golf and Country Club. For those of you who enjoy sports, Montaione offers not only golf, but also biking and hiking through the luscious countryside on rental bikes.
  • Volterra is a great town in Tuscany that was once an important Etruscan center, and it has a long and amazing history. The Roman Theatre dates back to the first century BC, and was only uncovered about sixty years ago.
  • Sacro Monte di San Vivaldo, which is also known as Tuscany’s Jerusalem. Pilgrims come here each year to visit a group of temples and churches built on the mount and this place holds great religious significance for them.
  • From June to September, you will be greeted by the Summer Festival at Montaione and every October-November, the village hosts its Produce Market, where you get to taste and purchase these delicious delicacies right on the streets.
  • Montaione vdeveloped through its agricultural and glass-blowing industry. Real industrialization only came after the Second World War. The local produce includes wines, olives, saffron, cheese and white truffles. You can go on a tasting tour to try some of these rich and fresh products.

Introducing

Nada Herling

The agriturismo has been in the same family for many generations. It was left abandoned in the 1950s but in 1997 the current owners started to refurbish the buildings, replant the vineyards and care for the olive trees. Since then they have been renting to tourists and each year they make more environmentally-friendly improvements to the buildings. You are looked after by Jill, the manager, who comes from Texas.
