The Experience
A simple stone-built house, slap on the sea, on a beautiful stretch of coast to the north-west tip of the island. Sun worshippers will be delighted with the terraces but there’s plenty of shade too. A verdant courtyard behind is a lovely place to take breakfast; for lunch, move to the large shady terrace with a barbecue; later, enjoy dinner on the terrace looking out to sea.
Inside are two simple bedrooms, which can be used as either double or twin, an open-plan living area with a pine-and-white kitchen and a sitting room with an open fire, and heating and air-con in every room. You’ll find all the basics for cooking like oil, salt and spices and bottles of water in the fridge. Eat or order pizza takeaway from Pizza Marinella, a short drive, and there are plenty of restaurants in town.
Below the house are steps down to a private swimming platform, perfect for confident swimmers; the sea is deep and great for snorkelling.

My friend and I were utterly stunned by the views, and what care has the builder taken in arranging the areas to enjoy them all! Inside it is very cozy, we loved finding the books on the shelves and a corner where people leave snorkeling gear for the next guests! Needless to say, if you manage to get out of it all, you are spoiled for choice on what to visit and where to go.

A simple, comfortable house with everything you need for a restful holiday in a breathtaking location. We loved it so much here that we have been twice now - once in July and once in October. There is spectacular swimming from the rocks at the house (but only for confident swimmers who can also climb down the steep cliff on a well -kept but vertiginous path). For equally lovely but more gentle swimming, the white sands and clear water of San Vito lo Capo are a short drive away (10 mins or so). Barbara is an extremely helpful host and very prompt to answer any questions.

This house is a little piece of paradise. Perched ontop of the sea with views from every angle. We stayed a week and couldn’t pull ourselves away from Zarbo Di Mare. The house is perfectly equipped with everything you could need. We were a family with an 8 & 9 yr olds and every need was met. There are a selection of beach toys, boots, flippers etc for the kids to enjoy. A hammock to enjoy the view and breeze. And a private diving platform to swim. Very close to town, restaurants and supermarket. My only hesitation to leave this review is more people will come and it won’t be our secret

An idyllic retreat on the beautifully scenic north west coast of Sicily. Spectacular views with private access to the sea ( but only for those who can swim). Very private yet only a short drive to the lovely little tourist town of San Vito lo Capo . with its safe , sandy beach and a range of shops, cafes and restaurants. The house and gardens were a delight with lovely little seated dining areas outside designed for different times of the day. The owner was particularly attentive and helpful. We had a fabulous holiday there!

We’ve stayed in Barbara’s wonderfully tranquil, simple seaside house three years in a row. The views are balmy and blissful and it’s but five minutes in the car to San Vito with its many shops and restaurants. I’ve stayed in much larger properties in Italy, France and Spain and never known a better equipped kitchen - it might be compact but everything you need is there. The private diving platform has ruined me completely - I’ll never want to share the sea again. A fantastic place for a spot of dolce farniente, although there are lots of sites of great historical import nearby, or so we hear!

This humble little house is also perfection as a jolly and relaxing holiday retreat. It is well equipped, clean, neat and tidy. There are a few houses scattered along this bit of coast, though it is definitely ‘off the beaten track’. The National Park is exceptionally beautiful. The local town is a friendly, with plenty of choice for places to eat authentic Sicilian food. The beach and little harbour is simply beautiful. The house owner has been helpful in every way. What a really special place—we hope to visit again!

Lovely place, very 'special'. Very thoroughly and thoughtfully equipped, simple but comfortable and attractive with a spectacular position and view! We saw many dolphins a couple of times. There are many places to visit within easy reach and the local town is busy but fairly small, very friendly and the tourists seem to be almost entirely Italian. The swimming spot reached from the house by steps and a rocky path is idyllic although not easy to get out from when the water is rough. The owner is very responsive, informative and helpful.

Fabulous location with the most amazing views. Lovely comfortable house with everything you need and loads of space for 2. Hours to be spent on the verandas looking out over the sea and at the mountains. San vito just an easy cycle away or a few minutes drive. Would highly recommend it.

All the ingredients for a perfect holiday. A charming, unpretentious and beautifully managed house in a unique position, with spectacular sea views offering total tranquillity but within a few minutes of the many joys of San Vito - glorious beach, boat hire, restaurants, gelaterie, fish and fruit markets to mention but a few, where one can go for days without hearing any other non-Italian voices. A real find - I've already booked for the 4th time in 3 years for next year!!

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in a rural paradise for long walks when it is cool enough, but San Vito Lo Capo is where you'll find the nearest shops and restaurants – a 7-minute drive. There are lots of places to eat, the most expensive being Syrah which has a good reputation. There's a big café on the square in front of the church for hours of people-watching and plenty of little places for a coffee or an ice cream.
Local points of interest from Barbara Yates
- Easter: the renowned 'Misteri' in Trapani. Religious statues, beautifully flower decorated by the different trades, and carried through the town for 24 hours on their shoulders. A great honour for them.
- During Springtime, an international kite flying competition with participants from all over the world. Great for both kids and adults.
- Around 20 September, the international cous cous festival, with contestants from many different cous cous countries. San Vito is renowned for its fish cous cous.
- October-November, international rock climbing competition. San Vito is very well known for its excellent rock climbing areas.
- Wonderful walks in the Zingaro Nature Reserve, just up the road, and in the surrounding area. The views are breathtaking.
- Close to many places of interest on the Western coast: Segesta, Erice, Trapani and its suggestive salt flats, Mozia, Marsala, Mazzara with its well known red prawns and Selinunte. Palermo is just one hour away and Agrigento an easy day trip.

Introducing
Barbara Yates
Barbara is a British interpreter and speaks several languages. She lives in Brussels but comes over twice a year to take care of her house here. She is well-travelled and has lived in many parts of the world, including Palermo in the 70s. She stayed with friends in this area every year and eventually bought a piece of land and built the house. The keys are left for you by Caterina who cleans.
The perfect place to go for a peaceful rest. It couldn't be better situated, with an uninterrupted view of the sea and the nearby dramatic hillsides, and a lovely shady terrace to lie on a hammock or lounger and let it all sink in. The private swim spot is only for the physically fit, but it is magical. The local town's beach is covered with loungers, so to be able to be in the water in total solitude is something really special.
