The Experience

A gorgeous place to escape and, for wild swimmers, an utter paradise – it’s a scramble down the hillside to the sea for the strong and energetic, just a short drive for others. The sculptor owner, Pascal, has a house further down the hill but other than that you’re totally alone in nature, with the sea and the mountains. Walks from the house will be wonderful, through seven hectares of lemon, orange and olive trees and, when it rains, a natural waterfall from the mountains into a little stream.

Indoors is comfortably sparse: whitewashed walls, two modern sofas (which can become beds,) a view-filled living room with sliding glass doors, a rustic kitchen with all the gear you need and two bedrooms with en suite showers. You’re just 2km from La Spiga bakery in Castelluzzo for memorable breakfast breads and pastries.

Bliss to sit in the little circular French-style garden gazing at the sea – on clear days to the island of Marettimo.

We think you'll love

  • The achingly romantic views of the sea in front of you and mountains behind
  • Walks through the Zingaro Nature Reserve or scrambles down to tiny coves – quite a haul back up when it's hot
  • Being delightfully free of other people and also mosquitos – it's too high up for the little blighters

Reviews

The property is located in a stunning land overlooking the sea and dramatic mountain landscape behind. It almost feels like being in a Jurassic place when you get there. The studio has character, simple and modern with pieces of art from the owner. Waking up there with that view is magic and in summer time you can admire a sunset just reflecting on the front of the studio.

Location

The neighbourhood

The feel here is very remote but it's just a short drive into the village of Castelluzzo for the bakery and a good restaurant, Trattoria Pizzeria Zammù. It's 5km to San Vito Lo Capo. Best of all you're able to walk straight into the Zingaro Nature Reserve, a wonderfully preserved wild area of flora and fauna with a coastal path from which you can reach white pebbled beaches and azure seas.
