The Experience

It’s basically just one very large room but with its white walls, big pictures and tasteful antique furniture there is a hint of grandeur. You’re on the edge of a huge 1800s farm and the building was originally a sheep house, attached to the main building only at the back so you’ll feel quite private. An open kitchen is functional but well-equipped and you’ll find some bottled water, wine and biscuits waiting.

Above the kitchen is a mezzanine room with a queen bed on the floor – quite a low ceiling but fine just for a couple of extra folk. Mostly you’ll be outdoors in a space with rustic hay bales, a table, an old farm building and an outdoor kitchen surrounded by a dry stone wall. This is a lovely spot for eating, surrounded by almond and olive trees and silent except for farming noises.

The closest restaurants and bars are in Rosolini (4.5km) so stock up, settle in and enjoy this bucolic, delightfully simple place to stay.

We think you'll love

  • Being so private – if you came as a couple you could play at being Adam and Eve before they needed the fig leaves
  • All the untamed nature surrounding you and lots of walks
  • It will feel very cosy at night, perhaps by candlelight

Reviews

All the reviews are accurate, Mauro is a wonderful and welcoming host. Do take advantage of his local knowledge and provide feedback. He is very keen to be accurate. 'Quirky' is the English word to describe the overall property with even more books now than are shown in the photographs. You are actually staying in one of Mauro's two homes so it is very relaxed. Enjoy the peace and quiet! Alan & Jenny

Set in a very peaceful location and in easy reach of towns such as Noto, Marzamemi, Modica and Ragusa. The host's interior design in this house is amazing and a pleasure to be in the midst of. There is plenty of outdoor space to use. Mauro is extremely pleasant and helpful to give any advice on where to go in the area. The neighbouring dog and cat are very friendly and will make you feel welcome here! Highly recommend to stay at this quality and individual house. Stuart and Karen.

Stuart, Bewdley

Perfect place! Beautiful countryside, elegant interiors with fine furniture, and near the sea. Easy to visit Marzamemi and Noto and plenty of very attractive sights. Or just sit under a tree and enjoy the Mediterranean weather. Highly recommended!!!

Peter, Firenze

The house is nice and cool inside thanks to the high ceilings. Excellent location, between Noto and Marzamemi and close to Vendicari Reserve beaches and Carratois. The owner, Mauro, is kind and helpful, recommending a different iteneries every day! Thank you so much we will be back…

Rita, Roma

A wonderful stay near to Noto in a quiet and charming house decorated with antique furniture. Lovely garden with straw bales and cushions. An authentic holiday home. And a very warm welcome from the owner Mauro. Highly recommended. Josephine. Paris

Wonderful place, in nature but near to everything there is to see in baroque Sicily. A joy

Muriel, Versailles

Palmento Belliscala is a perfect solution for singles or couples who want to be immersed in the Sicilian countryside without having to book a whole villa or share the outdoor with others... The property is as small in size, especially compared to the huge garden but the bedroom is grand and formal and everything is very functional and cozy.

Location

The neighbourhood

Both Rosolini and Marzamemi (12.5km) are not as beautiful as the rest of the Val di Noto towns but they still have charm and are both great for food shopping. Pachino is well known for tomato production. There are beach activities at Vendicari Natural Reserve along with birdwatching and lagoon walks. Taste wonderful regional wines, visit Baroque cities like Noto, Modica and Siracusa.

Local points of interest from Mauro

  • World Heritage town of Noto – one of Italy’s most beautiful historical centres.
  • Nature Reserve of Vendicari, a heaven of wildlife and some of the island’s most beautiful and deserted golden-sand beaches.
  • Marzamemi is a charming old fishing village with many atmospheric bistros and restaurants where you can enjoy great fresh food. There is also a marina where you can rent motor boats and dinghies, and the beach has lots of lidos and nightclubs.
  • Portopalo : sea village and amazing beach of carratois.
  • Santa Maria del Focallo is only 15km away – you can visit the beautiful Marza beach, and there's a great watersports and yoga centre that offers surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing courses also available in English.
  • Planeta Buonivini : wonderful winery and daily wine tasting (3km from the house)
