The Experience

Both spaces have been superbly designed inside while preserving exposed stone walls, arches, beams and bamboo ceilings – even an original Sicilian kitchen, purely decorative now. The thickest walls keep you cool in summer, warm in winter (although there is air con in every room) and each has their private slice of garden along with the run of all the pretty grounds and a swimming pool planned soon.

Kitchens are modern, industrial looking and generous, the walls have a mix of stunning art and old agricultural baskets, bathrooms have showers in plain, spotless stone. Kind Luigi leaves you fruit, coffee, a bottle of local wine and pistachio nuts – you’ll be drawn to enjoy them from a bench in the grounds with views to the sea and birds twittering overhead – spot bats at night.

You’re close to Noto and Avola for culture, restaurants and fish markets; taste wine at a Cantina down the road, find endless beaches for swimming and picnics.

Reviews

Wonderful relaxing, peaceful place to stay with nearby archaeology and historical towns to visit. Luigi was an excellent friendly host, and the two apartments (Piccolo and Grand) that we stayed in were lovely. Piccolo was perfect for sunshine in the courtyard. Although this space could be overlooked the other guests were considerate towards our privacy. Grand was perfect for welcome shade and the garden.

We stayed in the largest apartment which is tastefully furnished, beautifully renovated and extremely comfortable. The garden is a great place to sit out morning and evening and we enjoyed breakfasting on the grass most days. Luigi’s tips on beaches and walks etc were really useful - he is a helpful and very friendly on-site host. You will definitely need your own car here as attractions are some distance away.

Thank you Luigi for your warm and friendly welcome to peaceful and ideally situated La Tannura. Tannura Nido is a small space but well designed and met our fairly simple needs. The private terrace is a lovely spot, I recommend bringing insect repellent to enjoy it fully.

This place is so peaceful, so magical and authentic ! We stayed in december 2023 for 11 days! it was a pleasure to me Luigi and how he helped us with local tips. The decoration is so typical mediterranean and sicilian. Very close to Beautiful NOTO and Siracusa. Close to amazing beaches and seafood restaurants. The garden is silent, green and full of nice local plants and trees. We would have stayed much longer!!

Itzi, Barcelona

This is a wonderful place to stay, especially in May with the wild flowers. Luigi was a very welcoming host and we loved our house and the garden. It was very peaceful but close enough to a lot of interesting places to visit. We would highly recommend it.

Wonderful week spent at La Tannura Grande. Luigi, the owner, has created a beautiful spacious apartment, putting much love into the space – full of interesting objects and with a great kitchen area. A terrace links to a large shared garden with views across countryside and glimpses of the sea. An abundance of wild flowers the garden, land and all over Sicily. Luigi, is welcoming and very responsive. At night, the quiet was only broken by the haunting song of the Asiolo. Thanks Luigi for a great and magical stay.

It was an amazing stay at “La Tannura”, quiet and relaxing in a nice garden area. The owner Luigi is a real friendly and helpful guy, who gave us a lot of good recommendations for hiking, beaches and restaurants… Luigi, thank so much for our wonderfull stay! Ursula / Hans

A beautiful, idyllic spot set amongst olive groves, ideally located for historical sites, mountains, sea and life! We enjoyed the silence, the green, the very tastefully furnished house every minute! The exceptionally personable and helpful host Luigi gives you a feeling of being at home! We hope to come back!!!!

If you're in need of rest and recuperation then this is the place to come. The gardens are dreamy, the buildings beautiful, all is quiet except for birdsong but you're near to great beaches and two beautiful towns for adventures and shopping. Luigi is such a friendly chap, you can't fail to feel settled and comfortable

Nicola, Sawday's Inspector

Situated at the end of a quiet road between Noto and Avola, La Tannura is a beautifully converted farmhouse with a traditional appearance but a very comfortable and contemporary interior. We have stayed in 2 of the apartments, which are both equally well-designed and very comfortable places to spend your holiday. The outside areas create a lovely space to sit and enjoy the open views from the house. The host Luigi is a delight - helpful, charming and kind.

Location

The neighbourhood

Walks abound from the door, the garden is peaceful for yoga and you can trek to ravines and caves for wild swimming spots. Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a beautiful Baroque city, 4kms. Avola is 2kms, quiet in winter, busier in summer, with an old town, lots of food shops and fish to buy for the barbecue. Beaches are near, some sandy, some pebbled and with clear seas. Syracuse is 18kms.

Local points of interest from Luigi Pau
