The Experience
Deep in Sicilian countryside, wrought-iron gates lead to a rich green lawn framed by splendidly wild rambling roses and scented plants. This gorgeous country house, built in 1778 has been in the family for generations. Classic, understated furnishings have charming touches while bedrooms are modern, with small spotless bathrooms and Malin+Goetz soaps. Rooms open to a shaded piece of garden or terrace with distant sea views and you can cool off in the pool from May to September.
Roman mosaics, beautiful towns and stunning woodlands are yours to unravel; you could also hire horses from next door’s farm and ride to the coast – or picnic in a valley grove. Relax in the spa or book a massage. Start the day with a fresh Sicilian breakfast then head off on lovely long walks through the wild flora and fauna surrounding you.
Stroll along flagstones, admire the views, relax.

Our four nights at Tenuta Cammarana were almost like staying with friends because Sylvia and Giuseppe made us so welcome. Sylvia gave us a tour of her aromatic garden and recommended excellent places to visit and at which to eat, and they both sat with us after making us a delicious dinner one night and, over homemade orange liqueur, chatted about everything that old friends chat about. The house is stunning, very comfortable and so peaceful - I stayed behind one day and just read undisturbed in the garden, soaking up the sounds and smells and views. I can't wait to go back.

The star of the whole Sicily experience was Tenuta Cammarana in the wonderful hands of Silvia. Warwick (husband) celebrated his birthday there with everyone including her mother and brother. They even threw in a prancing Dalmatian to our delight-we have one at home! Her cooking is sublime and we did get a real sense of the local cuisine at her hands. Lovely room, as well.

Introducing
Silvia La Padula
Cammarana has a long and rich history which goes back through several generations of the family. Silvia, with her husband Giuseppe, has returned to the family home after many years living in Northern Italy and now opens her doors to international guests. They spend half the year in Rome and half the year at Cammarana. They maintain links to the land and a farmer works their land to produce their cheese, olive oil, grain and flour, carob and fruit. All their produce is locally-sourced to support the rural economy. There is a sculpture garden featuring Giuseppe's art and sculptures.
Guests come and have difficulty leaving after being pampered by gracious hosts Silvia and Giuseppe who delight in showing off this marvelous corner of Sicily. Here where the produce is more tasteful, colours more vibrant, floral perfumes intense, guests melt into the ambience and are led to the hidden treasures of the area only to be fed in the evening by candlelight on home-produced ingredients!
