The Experience

A welcome aperitivo on the terrace, with stunning coastal views. This supremely stylish farmhouse (rebuilt with the original stone by owners Cinzia and Dario) has the feel of a family home with all the trappings of a boutique hotel.

The terraced gardens are made for outdoor living: sun-soaked poolside loungers and tree-shaded courtyards for quiet afternoon reading. Planting echoes the rugged mountain scrub with natives, succulents and maritime pine; rosemary and lavender scent the air over a light lunch by the infinity pool.

Your room, in muted tones, is a cool refuge. All have splendid bathrooms and a private patio; choose between sea views or garden-facing. Breakfasts of fresh ricotta, cured meats and pastries are served on the main terrace. Take a drive along scenic mountain roads to the baroque city of Scicli, or spend the day sipping spritzes and people watching at the beach clubs in Sampieri.

Reviews

We stayed for 3 nights in this gorgeous place. The property is so well thought out and beautifully done inside and out with great views. Don't miss the Gelateria in Sampieri - delicious gelato and coffee!

Tanya, Wales

I brought a group of 18 people to RoccaSeta for a yoga based retreat adventure. It was spectacular and everyone was really impressed. The setting is stunning with the most beautiful infinitey pool overlooking the Mediterranean. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The cuisine was fantastic and daily breakfast sets you up for the day. Cinzia, the owner is a dream to work with. I had visited last year also and knew my group would love it. Of course “Duke” her dog is adorable! 5 stars

Elaine, Dublin

I have been on several of Elaine’s retreats and hopefully I will continue to attend Elaine’s retreats while I’m on this earth. She is so inspiring, thoughtful, and has a great sense of humor. The Yoga is always excellent. She tunes into the whole group as well as individual levels. The people who attend are always wonderful and so happy to be there. The food is always amazing and she always finds the most scenic villas or countryside homes to stay in. The excursions are well organized and compliment the country we are in. It’s also a very affordable way to travel.

Holly, Gloucester

We enjoyed our stay so much to not stop talking and writing about it. Very friendly hosts, unique location with beautiful view at the Meditarenean Sea, great and varied breakfast on a spacious terrace, always the peace and quiet and everything impeccable clean. Thank you very much to the Roccaseta-team!!!

Jan, Sint-Lambrechts-Herk, Belgium

Our stay at Roccaseta exceeded expectations on every level. Cynthia is an excellent host (nothing too much trouble) and has created a property with a wonderful vibe. Rooms good, pool good, food good, and a location which is fantastic for exploring the ancient towns of Scicli, Modica and Ragusa, not to mention the proximity to the wonderful sandy beach of Sampieri.

Jonathan, London

Absolutely wonderful stay with a very welcoming and generous host. Always do what Cinzia recommends and you will not go wrong!

Beverley, Drayton

Well-travelled Cinzia and Dario are excellent hosts who do everything possible to make your stay special. The ambience is calm and relaxing with great attention to detail in the tastefully decorated rooms and landscaped gardens. Their piece of paradise serves as an ideal base from which to explore the southern coast and its Baroque cities.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in a small neighbourhood that tumbles down the hill towards the sea. Nearby houses and farms growing Sicily's prized tomatoes are screened by trees. Nearby Gli Aromi nursery showcases local aromatic plants – book a tasting or cooking lesson. Walk 30 minutes to the beach at Sampieri for local sea food at PataPata. The baroque city of Scicli is 8km and the nearest train station is Modica, 18km.

Local points of interest from Elisa Pautasso

  • The city of Scicli, pronounced Sheek-lee, it’s one of many striking baroque cities to see in Sicily and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Scicli Town Hall - Aside from being known for its beautiful baroque architecture, Scicli is most known for its famous TV detective. Commissario Montalbano (Inspector Montalbano) is an Italian TV series based on the novels of Andrea Camilleri.
  • Marvel at Palazzo Benevento - It isn’t the first palace of its name that you can find around Sicily. There’s also one in Ortygia, which I list as one of 7 unmissable sights to see in Syracuse.
  • Palazzo Spadaro - A short walk from Palazzo Beneventano is the former noble palace, Palazzo Spadaro. Its most fascinating features are the 8 balconies with wrought-iron railings in geometric and floral motifs.
  • If you’re planning on spending a few nights in Scicli, you may be interested in visiting the coast. While Scicli itself doesn’t have a sea, it does have the largest waterfront among all of the municipalities of Ragusa.
  • Scicli has an impressive number of restaurants for a town of its size. La Grotta Scicli has excellent Sicilian food in a unique cave restaurant; Prosit Sicilian Bistrot is a great bistrot-style Sicilian food and with decent prices.

Introducing

Elisa Pautasso

The well-travelled Pautasso family, Cinzia and Dario, came from the very north of Italy to the very south for the splendid weather and a slower pace of life. After painstakingly rebuilding the farmhouse from original stone, they now spend most of the year here. It's a family affair – the owners welcome you along with their charming local team, and their daughter Elisa looks after the marketing.
