The Experience
You’re on the 7th floor (there is a lift) of an unremarkable 1950s building in the centre of chaotic Palermo near the high street. Every effort has been made to cut their carbon footprint (solar panels for energy and hot water, energy-saving devices, sustainable materials) and your host Vittorio is totally committed to not running a banal boutique hotel.
A marble staircase leads to nine clean-cut, soberly furnished bedrooms – white and coloured walls, soft taupe bedcovers, wall-mounted tellies, possibly a pot-planted terrace high above the street – each with a lively work of art, a smart shower room and organic bathroom stuff. No breakfast is served but you are left a basket with small sweet and savoury snacks – like a mini-bar you pay for what you take.
Fresh fruit, herbal teas and coffee are available all day in the communal space but you’re surrounded by side streets with cafés and restaurants and you can walk to the old town.

We think you'll love
- Being on the roof terrace with stunning views from the mountains to the sea – you won't hear any city noise from up here
- Not being in the old town (a short walk away) which is thronged with tourists, so you should feel more in the thick of local life
- Not bothering with a car – the bus from the train station leaves you a two-minute walk away and the airport shuttle is a 10-minute walk
You should know
- Small, well-behaved dogs are accepted but you need to describe the animal beforehand
- Most of the reception service is via mobile phone
- It's a safe, comfortable base rather than a place to spend all your time in

We stayed here initially for 3 nights and then rebooked for the end of our holiday a few days later. Our room was comfortable, simply and well furnished and very clean. A good bathroom with a good shower. We had a balcony high above the street with views across the city. The soundproofing is good and we could not hear the traffic. The staff are really friendly and helpful and recommended good places to eat. The restaurant on the first night was excellent. The hotel is in easy walking distance of much of the city. Breakfasts are generous and there is plenty to eat.

A very central location, lovely modern room with excellent bathroom and terrace with views to the nearby heights. The breakfasts were excellent and offered a wide variety of choices. We stayed for three nights and the hotel provided us with a great base for exploring Palermo. The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions and making bookings for us, a smiling Maria always seemed to be on duty when we were around.

Location
The neighbourhood
Alessio, who is your main point of contact, can advise on restaurants and bars. They recommend Osteria Lo Bianco, a four-minute walk and a typical 'trattoria' serving delicious local dishes. The historical centre starts at the Opera, a 10-minute walk. The high street is round the corner with some incredibly elegant and expensive shops. Mondello beach can be reached by bus in half an hour.
Local points of interest from Giorgio Aquilino
- Bio Hotel Parlermo is located in the heart of Palermo’s centre, few minutes away from the two most famous theatre of the city: Teatro Masimo & Teatro Politeama. The area is surrounded by the most interest cultural and tourist places of Palermo.

This is a nice base from where to visit the city and to which to go back and rest after a busy day. It feels good to know that all their energy is sustainable and that they do not use chemicals. There is plenty to do around it and the historical sites are easy to reach. For anything you need, Alessio replies to your queries and gives great tips via WhatsApp in a few minutes.
