The Experience
Lecce ‘The Florence of the South’ is an architectural treasure. White stone on Baroque façades against intense blue skies… dazzling. Keep the faith as you follow the directions through narrow alleys to a tiny square in which Italian drivers perform ingenious manoeuvring feats.
You’ll spot the house immediately – pots of wildly colourful flowers spilling from every sill, succulents trailing from balconies like Rapunzel’s hair. Inside, peaceful rooms, each with their own heavenly terrace, are traditionally furnished with a few modern touches, bathrooms are spotless, little kitchens have welcome hampers with local goodies.
Breakfast – a treat – is left at the door in a basket: fresh juice, warm croissants, a little glass pot of yogurt, fruits and jams from Elisabetta’s country house. Wander through the Giuseppe Garibaldi city park; drive to the turquoise shores of the Adriatic – Torre dell’Orso and Brindisi (both 30 km) are lovely.

A hugely relaxing mother and daughter mini-break in beautiful surroundings. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The apartment was spacious with a wonderful terrace, and within easy walking distance of the station and old town. Waking up each morning to the smell of baking and then uncovering the delicious and generous breakfast hamper left outside our door each morning was a complete treat! We were superbly looked after, and yet everything felt so laid back and relaxed. Thank you to Elisabetta for such a special time and we hope to return again soon.

Roof Barocco suites far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the suite for two people, which was tastefully furnished with two flower filled private patio areas looking over the old town. Breakfast was a delightful feast, brought to the room and beautifully presented. Elizabetta was so helpful. She organised transport from the airport which we were particularly grateful for as our plane was late arriving, and it was reassuring to know we would be picked up. A map and a detailed guide to Lecce was thoughtfully provided in English. It’s impossible to think of anything that could be improve

My mum (85) and I had the pleasure of staying at the Roof Barocco Suite for a week. I knew I couldn’t go wrong with a Sawday recommendation but this exceeded our expectations. Elisabetta booked us a taxi from the airport which meant a very smooth start. The building, which is a 2-min walk from the town, is stunning. Beautiful roof terrace, bedrooms were gorgeous: antique furniture, linen bedsheets, air-con. Great little kitchen, an all-you-need hamper and the most incredible breakfasts delivered each morning. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe this place. E is the perfect host.

Having spent 5 days staying at the incredible Roof Barocco Suite, we would never stay anywhere else. It's perfect! The photos don't quite do it justice. The rooms are light-filled, perfectly clean and give on to a stunning terrace that surrounded the room. Breakfast on the terrace is a highlight, along with the light across the rooftops, which changes as the day progresses. Highly recommended if you enjoy peaceful, comfortable accommodation in the heart of a beautiful old city.

We stayed for 3 nights in October on our first visit to Lecce. Elisabetta's apartment was spacious and beautifully furnished, opening to a wonderful rooftop patio with a view. Yes, there are many steps, but so worth it to be in such a good location only a block or two from the center. As many others have said, Elisabetta's hospitality is legendary! We were expecting a breakfast basket, not a big hamper of delicious food and drinks each morning. We had a car, and they arranged for secure parking very near by. Highly recommend!

Elisabetta as always will greet you with a smile and she will welcome you to her little slice of heaven. It may be of modest proportions but it's perfectly formed and the seating area in the shade is a delightful vantage point to hide away from the crowds and the hot sun of summer. A must if you need a pied a terre in the heart of Lecce.

As the other reviews on this site, this is a hidden gem of place, 5 minutes walk and you are in the narrow streets and alleys of Lecce, and yet back in the apartment, you feel as if you are in another place. Elisabetta is a charming host and spends time with you pointing out the local landmarks, and what way to be greeted, do you prefer white or red wine? what a question, what a way to start a holiday. Thinking of going....Don't think, book, you will not be dissapointed...

Earlier reviews on this site say it all. Elizabetta is a very special and utterly professional host of an apartment in the heart of historic Lecce. Breakfasts are incomparable and a daily surprise and delight. She helped us out in all sorts of ways for which we shall always be grateful. We are grateful too for Sawdays including this accommodation in its listings.

Everything that has been said about this place is true it is absolutely perfect. We only booked 2 nights as we are on a grand tour of Southern Italy and Sicily. What a start to our holiday. Everything is spotless and beautiful. Generous and helpful hosts. They left a well stocked welcome basket and cool drinks in the fridge. The breakfasts were sublime. The terraces were wonderful to relax and have breakfast on. I actually cannot do justice to such a wonderful place and wonderful hosts. We will return for a longer stay.

An exceptionally beautiful and elegant apartment with a stunning flowered patio. Elisabetta, the owner, is warm and welcoming. Superb breakfasts of hand-made baked goods, savoury omelettes, or whatever you prefer are discreetly left outside your room in a beautifully made-up basket. A wonderful place to stay in a wonderful city.

There cannot be a more wonderful spot in all of Lecce! My husband and I stayed at Roof Barocco for three nights and it was so hard to leave this incredible place. On the way into the town, we got a bit stuck due to road closures for the St Oronzo festivities, but our hosts came out to find us and guide us ‘home’! The stunning self-contained accommodation is within a few minutes walking distance of all the wonderful sights of Lecce. It was an absolute joy to sit on the tranquil shady terraces, drawing out the contents of our delicious breakfast basket, resting and reading.

Just spent Christmas with friends staying at Roof Barocca Suite in Lecce. We absolutely loved Pierre Angelo and Elizabetta and their accommodation is comfortable, stylish, well equipped and looks out over the rooftops of the most wonderful town in Puglia. Our bed was so comfortable I wanted to bring it home with me. The breakfasts delivered in baskets before we woke were utterly delicious and our Christmas break was perfect because of where we stayed and the welcome we received. Thank you.

This is a delightful place – for two principal reasons. First, the accommodation is spacious, imaginatively furnished and spotlessly clean. Everything guests could reasonably need is provided and it's within minutes of Lecce's centre, yet very quiet. Second, the owners are very welcoming and Elisabetta's breakfast basket is rightly celebrated. As if that wasn't enough, her husband willingly helped us sort out a puncture that our hire car suffered. Their website describes this as: "A little slice of heaven"? Not having been to heaven, it's difficult to know. But the hyperbole is deserved.

No one could possibly want for more in this sublime place., thoughI hesitate to recommend it further in case t becomes too popular and there would be no room for our return. Faultless, spotless and utterly charming, the Roof Barocca is exemplary in every way, not least the hosts themselves. Thank you Elizabeta for making our Christmas holiday - well done Sawday for including this exceptional place. In gratitude, Nicholas Courtney

Location
The neighbourhood
Outside your window find your flower-filled oases on which to laze and gaze at the wonders of Lecce, or find a shady corner with a good book. Ask Elisabetta about wine and olive oil tasting nearby, and wonderful beaches are a short journey too: Santa Maria di Leuca is a 30-minute drive; Gallipoli and Otranto are only an hour away on the train.

Introducing
Elisabetta Achiardi
Originally from Tuscany, Elisabetta moved to Lecce 20 years ago to follow her husband’s family roots. She’s an excellent host, welcomes her guests with big smiles like an old friend, and will take you past her floor to the apartments when you arrive. When she’s not hosting, she’s busy running her clothing atelier a short walk away.
We spent three days here and wished for more. The accommodation is beautiful - comfortable and with so much outside space in which to relax. Elisabetta's breakfasts which are delivered to the door are astonishing - freshly baked goods, yoghurt, cheese and fresh fruit. The location is amazing - Lecce is stunning and interesting to walk around, with so many places to eat, drink and soak up the atmosphere. This accommodation is also great value for money. We'll return because we loved it.
