The Experience
This hotel is set in an old palace dating from the early 1900s and looks out onto the main square of a small town. The ground floor houses a coffee bar and a good restaurant, and there’s a secluded swimming pool in a side courtyard too.
Rooms feature original frescoes on the ceilings, a mix of antique and modern furniture and sitting areas – look out for the excellent little guide to the area that includes recommended places to eat. There are also two guest sitting rooms with comfy seating and lots of books to read.
Breakfast is in the coffee bar or out in a courtyard filled with citrus trees – homemade pastries, yogurt, granola, local cheese, cured meats, bread and boiled eggs. The restaurant is run separately but you can add the bill to your hotel stay. You’re around half an hour from some of the loveliest beaches in Italy, and there are plenty of authentic towns to explore too.

A beautiful and historical property lovingly restored - it’s hard not to fall in love with this unique boutique hotel in Poggiardo. The rooms are large with spacious closets, bathrooms & balconies overlooking the charming piazza. A warm and friendly concierge team helps you with all of your needs. The kitchen director and his team make a perfectly presented breakfast that you'll want to linger over in the gorgeous garden by the pool. The restaurant La Piazza is not to be missed. Dine al fresco and enjoy fresh Crudo and seafood, great wines & service. An amazing place overall, we loved it!!

Location
The neighbourhood
The hotel is in a small town in the southern-most part of Puglia known as Salento. Shops, bars, pharmacies and restaurants are all nearby, and Parco dei Guerrieri di Vaste archaeological site is a 15-minute walk away. The closest beaches – Castro, Santa Cesarea, Otranto – are about half an hour’s drive away, and there are plenty of cute towns in the area to explore, such as Maglie, Spungano, Castro and Otranto.
Introducing
Sergio Positano
The reception area is manned by English-speaking staff and the hotel manager, is very helpful with information about the palace, town and surrounding beaches and countryside.
My husband and I stayed at Palazzo Circolone for three nights. Our room was beautiful and quite large. We had access to a lovely outdoor patio, as well. The staff was so friendly and helped us arrange a wine tasting at a nearby winery. The Palazzo was a great home base for all the places we wanted to see in Salento: Lecce, Otranto, many beaches, etc. Every morning we were greeted by Antonio, who gave us a delicious breakfast. I would highly recommend this place.
