The Experience

Donato is warm, friendly and loves his land and family estate. His four traditional trulli have private patios and face a lovely garden with olive trees, cacti and aromatic plants, and have views of the nearby town of Alberobello.

Although you have a kitchenette, Donato’s mother Maria delivers breakfast to you at a time of your choosing: homemade jams, organic eggs and yoghurts, local cheese and focaccia. Spend lazy afternoons in the swimming pool or jacuzzi, fire up the barbecue for dinner – you can pick your own veg from the garden too.

Donato loves to offer suggestions tailored to guests’ interests. Walk to UNESCO World Heritage site Alberobello for culture, shops, restaurants, an olive oil and and a wine-making museum. The coast is half an hour away.

Reviews

We stayed at Trulli Colarssa with Donato and his family in Puglia for 3 nights as part of our tour. What a very special place it is!! We stayed in Suite Felicia...a Trulli house converted perfectly and tastefully. Breakfasts were amazing, brought to us the night before so we had complete flexibility. Donato gave us some great tips on places to visit, eat and even park ! A great area to visit - the high light of our Puglia tour. Lovely memories were made. Thank you Donato and your family

We booked pre Covid to stay in at Trulli Colarossa and finally we arrived thanks to the massive support of Donato. He communicated brilliantly every step of the way including an adventure of travelling by train. We were 4 retired ladies who rented 2 trulli. It was cosy and authentic inside. Donato’s mother gave us breakfast everyday with homemade bakes and cleaned the Trulli daily including more fresh bed linen during the week. Donato helped us each day with directions and information on places to visit. Thank you so much Donato. We can’t wait to return or to another of your places

There aren’t enough adjectives to describe just how amazing this is, for us it was a home away from home! We stayed in Trulli Viola, which was wonderful. It’s exceptionally clean, everything was thought of & if you ran out, a quick message to Donato ensured it was with you very quickly! Breakfast was fabulous with lots of variety every day! Donato was fantastic at advising on places to visit, where to park and the best view points! He was always on hand to advise & nothing was too much trouble! Writing this makes me want to go back immediately but we will definitely be back next year!

Staying with Donato, Ioanna and Donato's mother, Maria, for a week was the perfect end to our time away. From the moment we arrived by car at their beautiful rural property, we felt at home. We stayed in Suite Felicia, surrounded by olive and fruit trees, a very short walk from the main cluster of Trulli's. It was exceptionally quiet and peaceful; a great place to relax, read a book or enjoy a glass of wine in the garden. Maria delivered a scrumptious breakfast every morning with a beaming smile. Donato was the perfect host in every way - a very special place to stay and explore Puglia.

I love to come back and spend a few days in Trullo Felisia for a romantic occasion ! This is the most secluded and the most recently restored one and the one where the typical white stone and other raw materials are more prominent. Would love to taste Maria's panzerotti, just to hear about them I was daydreaming !

We have just finished a two week stay in this wonderful place. We stopped in Suite Felicia which is in its own garden next to the main property. The most relaxing and comfortable accommodation you can imagine.Breakfast are a real treat- we rarely needed lunch! The best thing about this place however are the hosts, Donato and Ioanna. Nothing was too much trouble for them; restaurants were recommended and booked for us (and were always good), advice on places to visit & the best places to park in every town and village in Puglia! They made our stay a joy from beginning to end. We highly recommend!

Everything you could want and more!Honestly, this is a really special place, pretty, peaceful, clean, quirky, and interesting. It nestles into the hillside with Alberobello just 5 minutes away. The accommodation is great. We stayed in the smaller Trulli which was spacious and more importantly for my husband, a cool retreat from the hot sun. What makes Trulli Colarossa even more special is the people who run it.Donato and his wife Ioanna were lovely and honestly couldn't do enough for us!Donato went out of his way to help with the day's excursions Thanks again for the amazing breakfast goodies!

Location

The neighbourhood

A footpath gets you to Alberobello in about half an hour; enjoy a coffee or a slice of focaccia while sitting with the locals in the piazza or choose from a wide range of restaurants. Explore the surrounding countryside by bicycle or E-bikes – Donato can organise rentals – or drive to Torre Canne’s Natural Reserve of Coastal Dunes, a protected area along the sea, in about 20 minutes. The spectacular natural caves of Grotte di Castellana are about 15 minutes’ drive away. You’re in the heart of the Valle d'Itria, so within half an hour of other well-known destinations – the pretty small town of Locorotondo and Martina Franca’s historic old quarter are within half an hour’s drive.

Introducing

Donato Pugliese

Donato, his Greek wife Ioanna and his mother Maria aim to add highly personalised touches to the experience of each guest – perhaps an aperitivo or platter of freshly fried panzerotti made by Maria, or a complimentary tasting at a nearby winery. Donato and Ioanna have both worked in tourism. Maria, whose grandfather brought the farm in the 1900s, started renting out the trulli in 2010 and lives nearby.
