The Experience

Set on a tree-studded, birdsong-filled hillside, this rural estate overlooks a leafy valley. The loft is designed for total immersion in nature – you’re in a fabulous spot, 1,000m high between the Alps and the sea, with only the birds for company.

The Loft, which sleeps four, is a converted stone grain store with blonde wood interiors, a dinky kitchen, neat bathroom and a bedroom with one double bed and two singles. Light pours in from three windows, one with an incredible view down the valley, the others over the remainder of the hamlet Alpisella and the forest behind. The use of natural materials and good craftsmanship give it a glamourous, rustic feel. You have a small but well stocked kitchen with a rare marble worktop, but your first breakfast is delivered to you.

Hire e-bikes and explore the hills or wander the estate and forest on foot. Soothe in the wood-fired hot tub, stretch on the yoga deck or hang out in the old chapel — now a communal space for eating, reading and playing games. Head into Garessio (6km) for supper.

Reviews

It's hard to imagine a more serene location than Selucente. It's perfect for enjoying an aperitif in a wood-fired hot tub on the hillside or sitting round a barbecue looking down the Tanaro valley where the only sounds are birdsong and the gentle cracking of the firewood. There are three types of accommodation on the estate but all guests will love the woodland location between the Alps and the Med.

Location

The neighbourhood

The closest town is bustling with an array of shops and restaurants and you can buy basic provisions in the on-site shop. Discover excellent truffle restaurants in Alba and pick up a bottle of red wine in Barolo (both 1 hour). You can be on the Ligurian coast — the Italian Riviera — in half an hour. Further afield are Turin and Genoa (both 1.5 hours).

Local points of interest from Fabio Revetria & Lara Sappa

  • 6kms from the local town of Garessio. It's only a short drive into town (10mins) where there are plenty of shops and restaurants.
  • From the estate, you can walk (or cycle) into the neighbouring forest and countryside which is quite hilly but easy to access.
  • You could do a day trip to one of the big towns of Turin or Genoa and it's 1.5h from Menton in France by car.
  • Alba with its excellent restaurants with truffles as one of the main ingredients and Barolo for the famous wines are both only an hour away.
  • The Ligurian Coast is 30 minutes away.

Introducing

Fabio Revetria & Lara Sappa

Four owners (two of whom are architects) have restored the stone buildings, cleverly blending old and new, while the nifty star-gazing structures have won a handful of eco awards. One of the owners, Tiziana, meets and greet you and prepares daily breakfast.
