The agriturismo has been sculpted out of the 11th-century convent, using the principles of eco-bio architecture. Cows peer from sheds as you arrive, chickens, geese and sheep bustle. The main house stands against wooded hills; beyond are convent, outhouses, orchards and barns. Anna is a darling, so welcoming and kindly informal that you feel at home the second you arrive. One of the main treats is the taster menu, a chance for the gourmet in you to tuck into delicious local delicacies from a talented cook. The nine bedrooms are well-sized, uncluttered and original, all wood, stone and bold colours; bathrooms are modern and fabulous. Heat comes from a wood-burner integrated with solar panels; cork and coconut ensure the soundproofing of walls. There’s horse riding nearby, and they now organise weekends for families, encouraging children to spend time with the animals, and run free in eight hectares of gardens, orchards and woods… hard to imagine a better place for a get-away-from-it-all weekend! Bergamo, midway between Lake Como and Lake Iseo, is a cultural treat.
A charming, unpretentious and most friendly ambience. The hosts and all the staff were amazingly warm, approachable and helpful; unobtrusive yet almost guessing one's questions and requests. The chef is excellent. We lacked nothing and would heartily recommend the Casa Clelia
