On a tranquil side street within striking distance of the elegant porticoes of Via Farini and the shops and restaurants of Via Garibaldi, just beyond the majestic Palazzo Pizzardi, this family-run hotel has been managed by the Stegani-Stagni clan for three generations.

There’s a warm welcome on arrival. Rooms are smart, contemporary and inviting, each one slightly different. Some have private balconies or terraces (with views of the landmark Two Towers from a few), all have tea/coffee facilities and TVs. Bathrooms are luxurious with rainfall or cascade showers, while beds are generous and soft with super-smooth Percale linens. Splash out for a suite with a soaring frescoed ceiling.

There are plenty of shared areas to relax in, notably the top-floor terrace bar with fantastic views over the city’s red rooftops and medieval towers, and a comfortable lounge on the ground floor with a roaring fire in the winter and plenty of books.
