The Experience

Dreaming of beauty without beasts, coast without crowds? The fishing village of Nerano is far quieter and more authentic than the commercialised Amalfi coast. Guglielmo’s hillside jumble of houses, its core dating back to 1700, is a labyrinth of terraces and steps, gardens, gazebos and pool, all looking over the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea. His recently renovated apartments showcase his love of colour and his sense of the practical. The spaces are good and full of personality, some rooms are vaulted, furnishings mix antique and modern, kitchens and bathrooms have all you need. Guglielmo, the most generous, enthusiastic host imaginable, wants you all to have the best holiday possible, grows his own organic fruit and veg for his restaurant and adores surprising guests with impromptu excursions, barbecues, boat trips, sunset aperitifs…The Massese lemons are renowned, the seafood is out of this world, the gardens flower all year in this lush Mediterranean climate. Take the whole place and have Guglielmo organise a week of activities for 12-18 guests.

The best formula for getting the most out of a stay here is to leave yourselves in the hands of host and native, Guglielmo, who leads guests to local experiences offering an insider's view of this magical spot at the tip of the Sorrentine peninsula. Regional wine-tasting, boat excursions, shuttle to beach club, panoramic hikes, are all part of a unique stay, even better if you chose spring or late autumn periods where swimming in the turquoise sea is possible 8 months of the year!

We planned our holiday at short notice and were very fortunate to have found such a fantastic place for our family of 4 at Villarena - Sawdays comes up trumps again! This feels like the perfect place to enjoy this corner of Italy. Nerano is within easy reach of Sorrento and the Amalfi coast but has its own very special character. Nerano is stunning, with beautiful views and walks, and even has its own pasta dish 'Spaghetti al Nerano', which is gorgeous - and the best version of this dish that we tasted was at Villarena itself, cooked by our wonderful host, Guglielmo. Thank you Villarena team!

When you travel to places you want to learn about the people the place and the food. If you travel to Casale Villarena you are introduced to Nerano & the Amalfi by a fabulous host Guglielmo and his team. Villarena is warm, welcoming and authentic. We enjoyed a week of amazing cuisine from fresh and sustainable sources accompanied with amazing local wines. Guglielmo runs wine tasting sessions that are personal and incredible. We want to return and would recommend a stay with Guglielmo for you and your family that will blow you away 🇮🇹❤️

This lovely hotel lies on the coast road overlooking the village of Nerano and the sea. We were enchanted by the scent of lemon blossom as we entered the gardens! Our room was airy and comfortable and Guglielmo is the perfect host. He is passionate about cooking and wines. He uses only local produce, much of it from his own garden, and the fish, as fresh as can be, is deliciously prepared. The hour long walk over the headland to Jeranto Bay was well worth the effort. We swam in crystal clear water before eating our picnic- no snack bars here! Thank you for making us so welcome, Guglielmo!

We loved, LOVED our half-term week at Casale Villarena in June 2017. Guglielmo and Rosa are the most fantastic hosts, the garden and pool are lovely and the whole setting worked really well for our family of four (twin girls aged 10). The food is gorgeous and we felt no need to try out other restaurants. There was a shop very close for buying basics. The absolute highlight was a tailor-made boat trip along the Amalfi coast, organised and hosted by Guglielmo, including food, drink & secret coves to swim in. This is really not to be missed, and our daughters rated it as their best day of 2017..
