The Experience

An intriguing place, and quite a challenge to reach, but once there you fall into the staggering view – and know why you came. Originally a monastery (1600s), it stands high on a promontory overlooking the bay of Naples and the Sorrento coast. The whole place could be a Fellini film setting. After an effusive welcome from Erminia, Giovanna and the rest of the Giusso family, you will settle into your rooms – romantic with vintage iron beds, quirky antique furnishings and old paintings. Two are in the old monks’ quarters, the others overlook the courtyard where a couple of friendly dogs welcome you. The sitting rooms include a wonderful salon (wisely roped off) full of collapsing antique sofas and heirlooms. Dinner, biodynamically home-grown and delicious, is served at a vast communal table in the vaulted, ancient-tiled kitchen – an occasion to relish. At a breakfast of fruit, fresh ricotta and homemade cakes, plan an exciting day in Naples, then return to a blissfully peaceful stroll through the estate’s vines and olive groves and a glass of homemade walnut liqueur on the terrace – with that view.

Reviews

Once again Sawday's have captured the essence of "special places". From the ever attentive and smiling Erminia, to the simple yet fantastic shared-table meals (with special veggie options). The views, the history, the grounds. This stay is a real antidote for sterile Euro Hotels. Even the rooms are packed with character - while being super clean and up to date. Note: Villa is 20 minutes up narrow winding roads - you need to be a confident driver to hire a car in this part if Italy! Tip: Ask Countess (yes!) Erminia for the brief house tour, as it gives a real insight into her family links.

a real Sawday's. Fantastic location, but do not trust on the GPS. Very friendly people, good dinner. This is quite important because the road to a restaurant is not so easy at night. Spacious rooms and what a historic building.

JEAN, OLSENE

A stunning place to stay, with a really warm welcome. The access road is a little challenging (write down the details, as GPS signal can`t be relied on.) I`d recommend the evening meal option for one night.....fixed menu, with a communal table, but all this just adds to the character.

Atmospheric with a tremendous history. It is not as hard to get to as Sawday's makes out as long as you have a small car. Also, you can access by public transport -and the owners will pick you up from Vico Equense. There is also a bus. Nice breakfast, very good diners that you can book as additional. Most importantly, the owner and her niece really care about their guests happiness. If you are looking for perfect service and the newest in amenities, look elsewhere. If you want a great experience with a family that is interesting, willing to help you with anything and kind-this is it.
