The Experience

Lovers of good design will delight in the art and the furniture: an Eames Plastic DAR chair, Signal table lamp (Jieldé), Gae Aulenti coffee table and ‘In Out’ tables by Paola Navone. The sitting room, dining room, study and two upstairs bedrooms are smooth, uncluttered and a joy to spend time in.

The kitchen is small but has everything you need and you can have breakfast in the main house if you like: apple juice, organic bread, eggs, local cheeses, cake and jam. Each bedroom has its own shower room and dressing gowns are waiting.

Children can play safely in the three-hectare park with established trees and shrubs; you can eat outside on the terrace which runs the length of the house and has a brazier and lanterns, enjoy a splash in the pool or a game of boules. Opal Coast beaches are only 26km away, with surf schools and land sailing.

Reviews

Laurence and Clément will be very happy to welcome you to the well-appointed Lodge adjoining their beautiful home. The property sits in a three-hectare park meaning there's plenty of space for relaxing and there's even a heated swimming pool. Sustainability is a priority for the owners and part of the park is left fallow. Montreuil with its several renowned restaurants is 20 minutes away.

Location

The neighbourhood

It's a very quiet rural spot. Next door there is a small arts centre and an arable farm, there's a good restaurant just 1km away, La Clos de la Prairie, and other choices in Hesdin, 11km, where you'll also find shops for stocking up. Montreuil is 16km for antique shopping and Michelin-starred restaurants; Le Touquet is 33km for upmarket shopping.

Local points of interest from Laurence & Clément Krief

  • The Domaine des Chanoines Blancs is a restored former abbey, listed as a French national heritage site.
  • The name of the Domaine is a reference to the monks of the Premonstratensian order who dressed in white.
  • The garden is very similar today to how it would have been when the abbey was inhabited by monks, with a kitchen garden, orchard and herb patch.
  • The house is surrounded by three hectares of fields and woods – it’s a lovely place to relax in nature.
  • The ancient gate of the abbey can still be seen at the edge of the grounds, as well as a cannonball.
  • At Domaine des Chanoines Blancs we are committed to sustainable development.
