The Experience
This 200-year-old Savoyard farmhouse and its cowshed have been beautifully converted into a contemporary chalet with spectacular views and extremely welcoming hosts.
Andy and Lorraine’s sumptuous and locally sourced breakfasts include cereal, yogurts, homemade jams, pastries and traditional grain bread from the best baker in the valley, plus hot dishes using eggs from the chickens. Upstairs, comfortable and spacious bedrooms have soft cotton sheets and their ensuite bathrooms are immaculate.
The Portes du Soleil is paradise for walking or mountain biking in the summer and you’ll find guides and maps in the chalet. Explore Lake Geneva and Montreux, both less than an hour’s drive away; the adventurous can try white-water rafting, paragliding and rock climbing.

Great B&B in the mountains, loved the rooms and the views and so nice to have some space to relax in outside the bedroom. Fabulous brekkie - eggs from their free range hens which were roaming free every where! Dinner is only available in the winter although there are lots of local restaurants to eat at (but now want to return for winter/spring snow shoeing with dinner!)

Lovely old farmhouse owned and run by a great couple, Lorraine and Andy, who complement each other so well! Andy prepared breakfast for us every morning (different kinds of eggs everyday). Lorraine giving us stories of the region and very good recommendations on her favorite restaurants but also tips on activities around. Loved the colony of hens (called by their Owners the "Dames" for the hens, tks to them for the eggs every morning, and the "Colonel" and "Elton John" for the cocks). We really felt welcome !! We would go back there without hesitation.

We had a lovely stay here this summer after our first visit in January 2018 for a ski trip. I didn't realise there was so much to do in the alps in the summer and wouldn't have thought about it for a summer holiday before our first visit. We did walking, ebiking (amazing!) and a number of day trips to places I have heard of but never thought to see, Gruyeres, Montreux, Lake Geneva. We stayed 5 days in the new Feather room, I loved it! It's beautiful and calm and the mountains and nature is stunning. We are going to come back next summer and join it with a trip to the Italian lakes, can't wait!

We had a lovely 4 night stay at Chalet Cannelle this summer. We often stay in Chambre d'hotes in France in the summer as we love to meet people that live in the area that we visit. Staying here was a delight, from the welcome and all the ideas of things to see and do to the comfy rooms and spacious bathroom to the wonderful spread at breakfast. We enjoyed eating out at restaurants recommended by Lorraine & Andy and they even drove us and picked us up so we could enjoy a few glasses of wine (it's a few minutes by car)

In one word, Idyllic! We had a most wonderful time and Chalet Cannelle has the most nicest hosts, Lorraine & Andy. The area is stunning with a lot of activities for the family including 2 young boys. The mountains and villages are picturesque. The food, both the breakfasts at Chalet Cannelle and meals at the local restaurants were to die for. Idyllic!!!

Much more than a winter ski chalet, summer here is incredible! Another perfect summer stay at this beautiful chalet with wonderful hosts Lorraine & Andy. There were many little details that made our stay really special. We were set up for the day with a tasty breakfast, including eggs cooked various ways from their flock of pampered chickens. Lorraine has numerous ideas to fill your days around Châtel and the surrounding mountains, as well as restaurants for your evening meal. We can thoroughly recommend hiring e-mountain bikes, you’ll be amazed how much further into the mountains you can get!

Location
The neighbourhood
Chalet Cannelle is in the small hamlet of Suvay just outside the lively and still predominantly French-owned resort of Châtel. It's set down a narrow road next to a handful of other chalets and has uninterrupted mountain views. Drive less than 5 minutes - or get a lift from your hosts - to Châtel (2.2km) and La Chapelle d'Abondance (3.3km) for shops, cafés and great restaurants.
Local points of interest from Lorraine McDermott
- The chalet is in a peaceful hamlet overlooking the Abondance valley, between two pretty alpine villages; Chatel & La Chapelle d'Abondance, close to the Swiss border.A great location to enjoy two countries in one trip.
- The River Dranse is 300m from the chalet and perfect for a stroll, bike ride or even a spot of fishing. There are some lovely picnic spots or you can cycle to Abondance for lunch or the Sunday market for local foodie treats and artisan gifts.
- The Abondance valley is famous for its cows and cheese. In the summer the surrounding hills ring with the cow bells and you will see them on the hills when walking and biking. We love that each farm’s Abondance cheese has a different flavour
- Spoilt for choice for day trip options; Lake Geneva, chocolate factories in Switzerland, thermal baths, alpine walks with panoramic views, swimming in the beautiful valley pools, touring the hills on a bike...plus we are a member of the multi pass scheme!
- Ebiking is the new big thing in the alps and a fantastic activity. Great trails lead you up into the mountains both in Chatel and Switzerland with fantastic views and high up lunch spots. Bikes can be rented in the village.
- Both Chatel & La Chapelle d'Abondance have a good selection of restaurants that we can recommend for your evening dinner. Our Favourites are Les Gentianettes or a bit further, the Oberge de Bounavo

Introducing
Lorraine McDermott
Lorraine and Andy lived in Australia before moving to the French Alps in 2013. They are incredibly warm and welcoming and do everything to make sure that their guests have an excellent holiday. Andy is passionate about cooking and has produced an impressive self-published cookbook too.
I loved the vast window with fabulous views over the valley, the charming, stylish bedrooms, and fascinating artwork. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in a hamlet very close to the lively resort of Châtel, you couldn't do better than Lorraine & Andy's tastefully restored old farmhouse. A warm welcome and great hospitality awaits you along with delicious beautifully-presented dishes!
