The Experience

This gorgeous lavender farm was built around a courtyard with a central acacia tree, where you’ll have delicious dinners by candlelight on balmy evenings – it’s all very romantic. The large salon has hushed jazz music playing and there are lots of comfy seats and sofas for a quiet read (you’ll find an honesty bookcase) or a glass of wine and a chat before dinner.

Sumptuous bedrooms, some on the ground floor with private terraces, some suites and some on the first floor with south-facing balconies, are all a good size with muted colours, linen curtains, pretty cushions and smart modern bathrooms – such an air of luxury and comfort.

Tackle a few laps in the pool (it’s big) before breakfast: artisan breads, croissants, honey from bees gorged with lavender, cheeses, hams, eggs how you like, the freshest fruit salads and good coffee. Drift into the garden to find a shady spot or choose your sun lounger – all you’ll hear is the odd cuckoo.

We think you'll love

  • Basking in the Drôme Provençale sunshine, submitting to being looked after so well, forgetting your worldly cares
  • The food – Arnold cooks fish whenever possible, local guinea fowl, asparagus and truffles in season and his speciality is a wonderful ravioli with cheeses and fresh herbs
  • Having such lovely grounds to wander and such a big pool to swim in

Reviews

This is THE place to come and relax. It's fabulous. The highlights are the tasty breakfast and the smart pool, also not forgetting the lovely courtyard with its acacia tree providing shade for mid summer dining al fresco. For breakfast choose from cereal, cheese, ham, yogurt and eggs cooked how you like them to go with the artisan bread, croissants and generous fresh fruit salad. Wonderful.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are lovely walks and cycles through the fields and woods surrounding you. Chantemerle is 2km and has a restaurant. The pretty town of Grignan with its roses and the famous château are 10 minutes by car and you'll find lots of restaurants, small shops and a market on Tuesdays. You can explore lots of perched white villages with cobbled streets and squares with cafés for a drink in the shade.

Local points of interest from Clotilde & Arnold

  • Close to the beautiful village of Grignan, where you can visit the largest Renaissance castle in Provence and stroll through the streets
  • Wine lovers will enjoy Côtes du Rhône wineries visits, and of course a perfect selection at our restaurant
  • Hiking and cycling lovers will find beautiful trails and roads directly from the Domaine, among lavender fields, old oaks and pine trees, and stunning scenery
  • Farniente lovers can also just lie by the fantastic pool, and let the distant buzz of bees and the scent of lavender and jasmine wash over themselves
  • Perfectly located for picturesque discoveries (famous Avignon area, Gigondas, Gorges de l'Ardeche, Vercors... are less than 45 mins by car)

Introducing

Clotilde & Arnold

Arnold and Clotilde left previous jobs (Arnold owned a ceramics factory and Clotilde was a lawyer) to escape to this beautiful spot and run a small hotel together. They try to offer the sort of place and experiences that they love to find themselves when they travel. The house is filled with antiques collected by Clotilde – one of her passions. They are also passionate about food.
