The Experience

All the apartments are in the same building, a lovely old coaching inn, but each has a private feel and are not overlooked. There is a TV in each and Backgammon and Dominoes for quiet moments. A hectare of garden is yours to wander, scattered with umbrella pines, cypress and olive trees. All you will hear is birdsong and you can float in the pool or hone in on the honesty bar in the pool house, stocked with champagne, gin, rum, pastis.

Each apartment also has its own private outdoor seating area complete with plancha for outdoor cooking. Kitchens are modern and well-equipped but breakfast can be ordered if you prefer: milk, juice, cheese, ham, eggs, jam, yogurt, croissants, Sylvia’s homemade apple pie, clafoutis, pancakes. Dinners are available twice a week using seasonal and local produce.

There are many walks and footpaths from the door, a great little restaurant 7 minutes away and golf can be arranged with the owners.

Reviews

You couldn't pick a more comfortable place to base yourselves for exploring the Cevennes, the Ardèche and the Gard with their wealth of beautiful medieval towns, markets, mountains and rivers. Come back for a meal cooked by Sylvia - and then why not take a small nightcap from the honesty bar by the pool. Bliss! Leander and Sylvia will look after you amazingly well. Come!

Location

The neighbourhood

Walk to the épicerie for a coffee and feel very French. Carabasse is 7 mins for a great restaurant - fine French cuisine but a single menu. Auberge des Enclos is 10 mins: classic French fine dining with foie gras etc. Visit the Pont d'Arc - a vast natural rock arch over the Ardèche river, or launch your canoe. Explore the pretty little villages of Labeaume and Montclus. Uzès has a superb market.

Local points of interest from Leander Geurst

  • When you think of the Ardèche, you think of water. And that can be found here. Whether you want to enjoy a picnic along the waterfront or take an adventurous trip by canoe or kayak; here it is possible. Discover the Chassezac, Cèze or Ardeche!
  • If you like markets, this is the place. Every day there is a market nearby, varying from cozy to Provencal: imagine yourself in food dreamland where the olives, garlic, charcuterie, vegetables and cheeses are piled up.
  • The Ardèche is also known for the many caves that you can visit. Marvel at the oldest cave paintings in the world at the Grotte Chauvet (25 min) or a little closer at the Grotte de la Cocalière (5 min). And there are so many more....
  • It might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but our region is home to fine wines: from Chardonnay and Viognier to Grenache, Merlot and Syrah and the uncommon Chatus.
  • Being on the border of the Gard, we are close to some very interesting places such as the Pont du Gard; the tallest of all Roman aqueduct bridges and also one of the best preserved. It was added to the UNESCO. And we haven't mentioned the duchy of Uzès...
  • Many villages in the region have been labelled as 'Le plus beau village' or 'Un village de caractère'. This means that these are places that are very well preserved. They all are nearby: Balazuc, Vogüé, Montclus, Naves, Labeaume and La Roque sur Cèze.

Introducing

Leander Geurst

Leander and Sylvia are Dutch and had a French bistro-type restaurant called Pastis in The Hague for 10 years. They love France and bought this house in 2019 after coming across the Ardèche region by chance. They also have an apartment in the house and a dog called Coco.
