The Experience
A handsome house with masses of space inside and out, a large pool and enchanting gardens, all circled by gorgeous hilly countryside. It’s pleasant to wander into the little hamlet for your morning croissants or venture into the lovely town of Aubenas with its medieval château.
The entire tribe can spread out over two sitting rooms (one with a wood-burner), a library and two covered terraces with sublime garden views. Foodies can leaf through a cookbook for inspiration and create feasts in the well kitted-out kitchen while the kids let off steam in the gardens with swings, a playhouse and a climbing wall. Grown-ups can snooze in a hammock or harvest the fruit trees. Everyone will love a game of pétanque.
Rent bikes, canoe and kayak, stock up at the local Saturday market, visit prehistoric caves, take long walks, then return to seven comfortable bedrooms and deep sleeps.

Location
The neighbourhood
Aubenas, a ten-minute drive, on the banks of the Ardèche river has an imposing medieval château, a Benedictine chapel, a fantastic Saturday market and plenty of shops and restaurants. Canoe or kayak from here or zip off down a voie verte on an e-bike. Visit the famous prehistoric cave Grotte Chauvet 2 (38km). You can also walk straight into rugged Ardèche countryside from your door.
Introducing
Caroline Vuille
Caroline is a nutritionist and hypnotherapist. She loves to travel and has lived in Asia and the UK, and currently lives with her family in Geneva. They bought the house in 2021 and visit wherever they can. Local couple Jean-Louis and his wife welcome guests and manage the property and garden.
I love the Ardeche for the rugged charm of the landscape and the beautiful stone terraces that former generations have laboured to built, excruciatingly, in an attempt to grow food for their families. The owners have embraced the style and age of the house and furnished it with charming antiques. The outside is a garden of terraces and hidden lawns, culminating in a glorious pool area. Fun for 14.
