The Experience
How lovely to find yourself just a 20-minute drive from Paris but cocooned in a 17th-century rustic cottage surrounded by gardens in the old part of a sleepy town. Drive through wooden gates to find the big house, and across the gravel drive, your holiday home with bikes to borrow, wood for the fire out the back, an assortment of homegrown veg – it’s all deeply generous thanks to kind owners Daniel and Claude. Inside find a large, beamed sitting room with white sofas, antique furniture, terracotta tiled floor and elegant stone fireplace for a roaring fire when you want it. Off here is a small kitchen with white tiling, 70s pine cupboards, a dining table, (you’ll be eating in the garden mostly though) a handsome antique wall clock and an ancient stone carved sink. Up to the eaves and a large bedroom which spans the width of the cottage and has shelves crammed with books, vintage artwork and views over the courtyard and garden. The bathroom is sparkling and roomy with a walk in shower and more views. Walk into town for shops and restaurants, visit Versailles, hop on the train to Paris, or just stay put and relish the peace.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was lovely inside - so relaxing. Daniel and Claude our hosts were charming and couldn’t do enough to help if you needed it. It is possible to leave your car there and use public transport to Versailles and Paris if you want. The bus stop’s virtually outside. When we visited in September there was a lack of restaurants open so if you intend to visit out of season you need to be aware of this but there is 2 supermarkets, one within walking distance the other one approximately 5 minutes by car.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Les Tournelles. It is such a beautiful, calm and cosy space situated in beautiful, expansive gardens. The owners, Claude and Daniel, are ever so warm and thoughtful - they even filled the fridge with some food and wine for us when we had a late arrival on our first day and the supermarket was already shut. A bakery, butcher, tabac and supermarche are just around the corner, as is the bus stop which makes it easy to get to Versailles and Paris without using the car. Would wholeheartedly recommend a stay!

We think this place is even better than the pictures shown on the website. Guyancourt is a quiet, modern town. However, Les Tournelles is situated in an old courtyard. A true sanctuary, because it is completely walled. Inside you share the lovely garden with your hosts, who we thought were splendid. Leave your car in the yard, because Versailles and Paris are within easy reach by public transport. The bus stops almost in front of the house. Baker and butcher are a 1 minute walk away. A supermarket is also nearby (3-4 minutes by car). We recommend this unique place without any hesitation

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Daniel Genton
- 10 minutes from Château de Versailles - 45 min. from the center of Paris by bus+train
- 5 minutes from "GOLF National" - Three other golfs within a 15 min. drive
- 10 minutes from Abbaye de Port Royal - 45 min. from Jardin de Monet at Giverny - 15 min from "vallée de Chevreuse"
- This house was erected in 1685. At that time it was a farm in the "Grand Parc du Château Royal". The church nearby is from the 12th century. Guyancourt is now part of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, "ville nouvelle" gathering 13 former villages west of Paris.
- We bought this place 26 years ago. We, Claude my wife and I are very active in our garden...
- lots of pedestrian circuits and cycle paths

Both the hosts and accommodation were absolutely charming and we had a lovely time without any rain which was a bonus. Claude and Daniel made us both feel extremely welcome from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The garden was also a delight to wander around and sit in. A huge thank you to them both. Added bonus for us was the ability to not need the car as the buses were extremely reliable and cheap.
