The Experience

From the street you enter a courtyard, then up the stairs and onto a very lush lawn with the glorious building at the end. Through a shared entrance find the side-by-side apartments, almost identical in layout: the south-facing living areas have two enormous arched windows flooding the space with sunlight; there are many paintings and sculptures (some by the owner Patricia) and books; steep stairs take you to cosy mezzanine bedrooms with TVs and garden views.

Small kitchens have two induction hobs, a microwave, fridge and kettle, with a few basics in the cupboards. Rustle up lunch and eat at your own table on the lawn or head to some very good restaurants a few minutes away. Fun for two couples to take both apartments and visit Versailles together.

You can easily get here without a car as regular trains run from Paris and take only 12 minutes from Montparnasse station. Feel part of French history in this historic place.

Reviews

An idyllic wisteria and rose-covered base for exploring Versailles. L'Orangerie is a charming building, restored by its vivacious owner Patricia, who could not be more delighted to share her knowledge of all the ins and outs of Versailles and the château itself with her guests. The château is barely 10 minutes away by foot.

Nicky, Sawday's Inspector

Two lovely self contained units at the far end of an elevated garden - well equipped and wonderfully peaceful. Location couldn’t be better: ten minute walk to railway station and palace; and very easy to find. Patricia is a very thoughtful and knowledgeable host - her tips for restaurants were spot on. Well worth spending a few days here - the town has a vibrant market and plenty of interesting shops....it’s all so grand!

Location

The neighbourhood

A grand avenue leads straight towards the gates of Versailles and there's no traffic noise as the Orangerie is set back from the road. There are some superb restaurants a short walk away, shopping at the local antique shops, the charming passages of the Place du Marche and the Saint-Louis quarter is fascinating to explore with the oldest buildings in town. The train station is five mins on foot for day trips to Paris.
