The Experience
All the bedrooms are named after artists with close links not just to the village of Valmondois but to Laurent’s fascinating, cultured family. Three overlook a peaceful terraced garden and one the village square. The upstairs drawing room is pleasingly book-lined, breakfast includes Valmondois honey and is served in the big dining room at one sociable table. Laurent speaks excellent English and can give you plenty of tips about the village he loves so much.Wander to the village square for a spot of people-watching or a visit to the bakery and a café which does lunch. Beyond is beautiful countryside for walking and cycling, a riverside beach for swimming and hikes in the Park.

This is a wonderful place to stay - so peaceful and yet so close to Paris. The rooms are beautifully restored but with their origins, history and cultural connections very much in evidence. The owner is delightful, courteous and helpful. He cooked us a delicious evening meal and served an excellent breakfast with preserves made from fruit from the garden. This is an ideal location for an over-night stay en route to or from Calais or for visiting Paris and we recommend it highly.

Location
The neighbourhood
You emerge onto the village square of pretty Valmondois: there’s a shop and bakery a two-minute walk away, plus the Café des Filles which serves lunch daily and dinner on Friday and Saturday. Ten minutes by car gets you to L’isle-Adam, replete with restaurants and a riverside beach. You’re within the Vexin Natural Regional Park, so long walks, bike rides, fishing, hunting and golf are on the agenda. Hard to imagine Paris is just an hour away!
Introducing
Laurent De Gaulle
Not only does charming Laurent comes from a long line of artists and musicians, he’s also the great nephew of Charles de Gaulle. After studying history and politics he worked as a cultural attache in Australia and India. Next he became involved in sustainable development and started taking photographs, some of which decorate the walls. He loves making people welcome in the family home and the village where he serves as councillor.
Laurent is the quintessential host offering his expansive generational family home to guests in the historic village of Valmondois a short distance from Paris and the airport. He is a most charming and well-spoken man with a background in the French diplomatic service. In his spacious eat-in kitchen he prepares superb meals whether dinner or breakfast. The grounds and the rooms have a distinct French village charm appointed with contemporary amenities. Parking is most convenient being just across the street from the manor entrance. Restaurants abound in the village and in close by villages.
