The Experience
Absolute Paris, 300-year-old timbers, crazy wonky stairs and modern comforts, a warm welcome, little streets and friendly markets: it’s a real privilege to stay here. For breakfast there’s homemade jams and honey (from Jean-Luc’s hives in the Périgord), croissants, fresh bread, juice and hot coffee and tea in the rambling, warm living room upstairs.
Rooms are characterful and rustic, full of quirk with a mix of antique woodwork and modern prints, high ceilings and whitewashed walls or exposed stones and beams. Both have private access, independent from your hosts, on the first floor. Simplicity, panache and personality, attention and service: these are the hallmarks.
No communal space, but a lovely peaceful courtyard and only a 20-minute walk to the Seine. Skim stones along the iconic Canal Saint Martin; sip an espresso on the historic Places des Vosges (both 11-minute walks), Paris’ first planned square.

The fine aristocratic mansions, little streets and quirky artisan shops of the Marais are endlessly fascinating and they're on your doorstep, until you can't take any more. Then step into Bonne Nuit Paris, a warm old Parisian house that wraps you in soft, vintage peace among its old stones and ancient timbers. I love the way Denise marries antiques and modern furniture.

We stayed at Jean Luc's bed and breakfast in the Marais for three nights in early November 2014. Jean Luc was exceptionally welcoming and accommodating. The room was comfortable, nicely furnished and quiet. The Marais is a great place to stay in Paris, with lots of things to do there, including visiting the newly re-opened Picasso Museum. And we ate well at local restaurants, all on Jean Luc's recommendations. In short, we cannot recommend Bonne Nuit Paris highly enough.

Location
The neighbourhood
Historically the Jewish quarter, Le Marais pre-dates Haussmann’s wide avenues so expect small, quirky streets home to artists’ studios and galleries. It’s a six-minute walk to République metro stop, from which you can access 5 lines across the city. There is masses of choice for eating out on all budgets here too, especially amazing patisseries and vegan options.

Introducing
Denise & Jean-Luc Marchand
After moving to Le Marais in 1983 and with careers in international business, Jean-Luc and Denise opened the house to guests in 2007. Jean-Luc is your hands-on and humorous host and Denise is a pyschoanalist.
We had a marvellous stay with Jean-Luc and Denise. The suite of rooms we were in is very beautiful, bed extremely comfortable and a great shower. Jean- Luc is very charming and helpful, going out of his way to advise us on activities and booking restaurants. The position in the Marais is fantastic and very convenient for walking to a number of attractions, and very close to a metro station. Jean-Luc was very happy to help us practice our French which we much appreciated. We would highly recommend it.
