The Experience

Your arrival, through sunflower fields and lavender beds, then into the manicured gardens with its olive and fruit trees, immaculate lawns and shaded patios, is serene. Copious sofas and sunbeds are spread enticingly in shady corners overlooking the heated pool and there are fabulous views northwards over the valley towards the medieval villages of Viens.

The huge sitting room has stone walls, beamed ceilings and enough comfortable seating for all, the works of local artists and photographers hang on the walls and you’ll feel cool indoors. Cooks will approve of the vast kitchen and there’s a dining table in the middle for helpers. An even bigger table sits on one of the terraces outside for convivial al fresco meals or barbecues.

Bedrooms (two down and four up, five with air con) are all en suite and neat-as-a-pin with lovely views. Swim in the big heated pool, play badminton, table football and table tennis or simply laze about in holiday mode.

Reviews

A little slice of Provençal paradise from a magnificently renovated farmhouse set near lavender fields on the wooded slopes of the Grand Luberon. The extensive views can be admired from bedroom windows, the pool or from sunbeds under large shady white parasols. There are air-conditioned bedrooms, a vast lounge, many dining areas both inside and out. Easy drives to restaurants and historic sites.

Location

The neighbourhood

Walks and cycles in any direction will be wonderful – you can hire bikes locally and pootle down paved trails, or hike in the wooded foothills or the Gorges d'Oppedette. Céreste-en-Luberon is 2km for shops, restaurants and cafés. Visit the little Sunday morning market in Reillanne or a larger one on Mondays in Apt or Forcalquier for fantastic food. Saignon is 15km – eat at Le Jardin sur le Toit.

Local points of interest from Sheena MacKay

  • Gorge D’Oppedette – cycle or drive 10km to take a walk around or climb into these stunning and ancient limestone gorges.
  • Drop down from the house onto the Veloroute du Calavon and walk or cycle for miles (almost entirely off road).
  • Head to the friendly weekly market at Reillanne on Sunday morning – sip a coffee or a pastis at the café in the sunshine then pick up something delicious for your lunch back at Mas de Grivet.
  • Just over the hill at Simiane-la-Rotonde, explore the Chateau and its beautiful Rotonde, then lunch at the gardens of the Abbey de Valsaintes and a gentle stroll through the gardens afterwards.
  • For a more adventurous day out, head up the famous Mont Ventoux (by bike or by car!) and see the spectacular views.
  • For a pampering moment, treat yourself to lunch and spa at the L’Occitane Spa at Le Couvent des Minimes.
