The Experience

Such a pretty house in a peaceful spot. Bedrooms are all on the first floor, not huge, but very comfortable and tasteful with views over the vines. Start your day well in the separate communal breakfast room: homemade yogurts, baguette and pastries from the village bakery, local jam, cheese and charcuterie, local fruit juices, sometimes homemade pancakes and cakes. If it’s sunny you can eat outdoors instead.

The pool is open from April to October, there’s a pétanque pitch and plenty of seating areas in the garden with its pale stone walls, mature trees and pretty shrubs. Lovely to find a place in the shade with a book, or simply to doze. You’re completely surrounded by vines and the village is 1km, so you can stroll down to a restaurant, boulangerie, épicerie fine and a small market on a Thursday morning.

Stay in for a picnic lunch – Alix can lend plates and cutlery – or head out to explore, walk, taste wines, view Roman remains.

Reviews

A lovely peaceful place with a warm welcome from the owner, Alix. Smart, comfortable rooms all facing south over the endless vineyards and a hearty breakfast. With so much to see and do in the vicinity it's a perfect spot for a Provençal holiday.

Location

The neighbourhood

Suze-la-Rousse is less than 10 minutes in the car and has a lovely château; Grignan with its famous château is 20 minutes. Les Dentelles de Montmirail is great walking and climbing country and Gigondas and Ségeuret are 20 minutes. Visit Roman Orange, or Vaison-la-Romaine for Roman remains, a medieval village and huge Tuesday market. There are oodles of vineyards to visit and perched hilltop towns.

Local points of interest from Alix Rousseau

  • Cycling in the vineyards, lavender fields (between May and July) and olive trees and cycling (or driving) on the top Mont Ventoux, the highest mountain of Provence! And at the end of the day you can enjoy a swim in our swimming pool!
  • Hiking, climbing or cycling in les Dentelles de Montmirail and visite small villages like Gigondas, Séguret, le Barroux, La Roque-Alric.
  • Wine tasting in famous towns (Gigondas, Vaqueyras, Château-neuf-du-Pape) or in small domaines! Our home is on the wine Côtes du Rhônes tourist route! And we have delicious restaurants near by!
  • Visiting small typical provençal villages with beautiful churches, castels and gardens as Grignan, Suze-la-Rousse, la Garde-Adhémar, la Roque-sur-Cèze. Each village as his own market where you can buy provencal food, potteries and artisanal arts!
  • Visiting big cities full of histories and ancient ruins as Avignon, Orange or Vaison-La-Romaine.
  • Kayaking and wild swimming in Ardèche gorges. Ardèche gorges are a spectacular wild and protected environment!

Introducing

Alix Rousseau

Alix lived in Paris for 15 years and was a scientist. This is a complete change of direction for her but she loves it and is infectiously enthusiastic about the area. She and her husband and their small child live in the other half of the building, but it is Alix who gives you such lovely breakfasts and can tell you about places to visit and things to do.
