The Experience

The interior of this 18th-century house has been rebuilt by an architect and very cleverly designed to make use of the space and light – you won’t feel in the least bit hemmed in.

Downstairs is open-plan with a central double-height mezzanine. Snuggle in the comfy sitting area in front of the fire listening to music on the super sound system, or play pool, browse the books in the library, swim in the heated indoor pool or try out the sauna. Step out from the kitchen onto a wisteria-covered balcony overlooking the village square and fountain.

Sunny days can be spent on the first-floor deck – fire up the barbecue and eat at the big dining table with views of Mount Ventoux in the distance. You can walk to everything from here, including the bakers, butchers and grocers, or jump in the car to explore authentic villages nearby.

Reviews

Loved our stay in this intriguing town house in a historic village. From the outside, you'd never guess the size of the accommodation inside with the myriad of rooms and spaces to enjoy. Wonderful views of Mount Ventoux from some of the upper windows and the spacious terrace. The staircase is a marvel, but therefore steep and narrow in places! There was also some building works going on next door, which didn't really bother us, but created some noise for those sleeping in the front rooms.

Liz, Lincoln

A lovely, welcoming house with a great location in the village.

Martine, Saint Jean de Royans

This house is an adventure in its own self. What an amazing place....even just entering the front door, looking at the staircase, we were all enchanted. And the adventure just continued from there. The whole house is are carefully and beautifully decorated, and have a very spacious and well equipped kitchen. We spend lost of time in the pool & sauna after exploring the cozy town of Pernes-les-Fontaines and many of the nearby local sites. We served drinks at the terrace enjoying the wonderful view. We are a big family, three generations and lots of space for all of us. We want to come back!

We had a fabulous family holiday here. The house is perfectly equipped, and stays cool even when really hot outside. The pool stayed lovely too - how we loved swimming in 26°-27° when it was 39° outside! Pernes centre is great, with a lovely daily walk with its 40 fountains. Everything can be reached on foot too. Thank you Isabelle and David for your care and efforts. Une belle & chaleureuse maison! Nous relouerons!

Anne-Céline, Paris

A wonderfully grand village house with an ancient history but a now modern architect designed interior. Great location in the centre of characterful and historic Pernes-les-Fontaines with its Provencal markets, shops, cafes and restaurants and perfect to be able to walk to all of them within minutes. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the spacious interior and all beds and facilities are of the highest standards. Cook in the fab open-plan kitchen, lounge in front of the log fire, browse books in the library, use the super sound system, play pool or darts..The most wonderful house for groups.

WOW ! Outstanding house, beautifully and tastefully renovated. The exterior is gorgeous, the house is located in the center of the beautiful little town of Pernes les Fontaines (so no need to take the car to go shopping). The interior is classy yet practical, the terrace is wonderful, looking at the mont ventoux drinking world-class local wines is a wonderful experience. The indoor pool is wonderful, the kitchen very practical and well equipped, the rooms are great... A perfect 10 !

Clement, Ferney Voltaire

'Absolument superbe' house which has been marvellously and tastefully renovated. Great indoor pool, huge patio for meals in the sun. Big lounge and a very good quality kitchen. Big, open spaces with high ceilings too. Beautiful bedrooms, allowing you to come with family or friends for a lovely holiday. We'll be back! Thank you!

Francois, London

A 'parfait' stay....maybe even the best! The house is fantastic, well equipped, and even lovely in winter with the indoor pool, sauna, billiards, table football. Perfect location at the heart of Pernes les Fontaines, with everything in walking distance. The welcome, like everything else, was impeccable. We'll be back for sure, and would highly recommend!

Location

The neighbourhood

The house is in the historic centre of Pernes-les-Fontaines, which has a weekly market, shops, restaurants and cafes as well as a walled historic centre and many fountains and squares. Towns within 15 minutes’ drive include Carpentras, with its historic synagogue and bric-a-brac markets, and Isle sur la Sorgue, which has canals, water wheels, antique markets and waterside cafes and restaurants. The summit of Mt Ventoux is about 45 minutes by car, the vineyards of Gigondas, Vacqueras and Rastau plus the famous Chateauneuf du Pape are all less than an hour. Avignon is 40 minutes.

Local points of interest from Benoît & Sumaira

  • The pool table, football and darts board offer entertainment for the young (or young-at-heart), while a playroom is stocked with toys for even younger guests. The library offers books (in French and English) to cosy up with
  • If you can tear yourself away from this tranquil abode, the picturesque town centre has restaurants, shops and a famous Saturday market to tempt you with. Follow the Fountain Walk Trail to find all 40 public fountains, with stops at various viewpoints.
  • In the vicinity, be sure to try the famous nougat from Silvain in next-door Saint Didier; train enthusiasts will love JardiTrain as well. Also close by are the buzzing antiques markets of beautiful L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
  • Further afield, the joys and sights of Provence beckon - wandering around labyrinthine Avignon and the Palais-des-Papes, wine tasting in Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape; exploring the Luberon and the majestic town of Gordes.
  • Don't miss the many Provençal markets in the area: Saturday morning in Pernes, just a 2 min walk from the house; Monday morning in Saint-Didier; Friday morning in Carpentras; Thursday and Sunday mornings in l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
  • Take the beautiful drive to Sault, with amazing views on Mont Ventoux and lavender fields; shop for lavender essential oil and return to Pernes taking the road of "Gorges de la Nesque", our little local Grand Canyon.
