The Experience

Slip from stunning pool to chic lounger, and drink in the views of the Luberon hills. These eco retreats, built of reclaimed terracotta and mellow stone, reflect the charm of the 18th-century ‘mas’ where this lovely French family live. You’ll also meet two pretty sheep, Arthur and Martin.

‘Salvia’ and ‘Bonnelli’ (a bedroom upstairs, a pull-out bed down) extend out from the farmhouse, while ‘Senecio’ is separate but close. All have secluded terraces – two overlooking fields of lavender, one facing lawns and pool. Peacefulness reigns, no houses are visible, and walking paths radiate from the garden.

The position could not be bettered. At the top of the track, turn left for hilltop Roussillon and right for undiscovered Goult. Enjoy a casual lunch on the terrace of the Café de la Poste in Goult, and delicious dinners at Roussillon’s La Treille. Both villages are gorgeous.

What a beautiful setting, between olive trees, lavender fields, pine forests, ochre cliffs, vineyards... Everywhere you look is enchanting. We loved our little gite (Salvia), very comfortable, and enjoyed al fresco meals on our terrace under the tree. Our little boy couldn't believe his luck when he saw growing strawberries - the vegetable garden is a really nice touch. The pool area is divine, surrounded by trees and views of Mont Ventoux on a clear day - pretty special. Exploring the nearby villages was great fun and the area is definitely not short of wine domaines! We had the best time :)

A rural hideaway surrounded by lavender fields, ochre cliffs and vineyards yet within easy driving distance and midway between two of the loveliest Luberon villages: Goult and Roussillon. Three newly renovated, imaginatively furnished and eco-friendly places to stay, all sharing a large garden and heavenly pool. Great views. A Provencal haven of the highest standard with delightful french owners.

Location

The neighbourhood

Surrounded by vineyards, fields and woods, the domaine lies between Gordes, Roussillon and Lacoste - the golden triangle of the Luberon. Rustrel's ochre cliffs, known as the "Colorado of Provence" are a 30-minute drive, but 4km away you'll find Roussillon's historic mines - borrow the electric bikes and cycle there. Goult, 4km, an unspoilt village, has an ancient mill and a handful of restaurants; try the marvellous Les Carillons. Hilltop villages, wineries and markets abound. Enjoy Saturday’s market in Apt, a 20-minute drive.

Hiking from the house, through the ochre paths and cliffs that lead to the magnificent village of Roussillon.
If you like farmers' markets, you've come to the right place! Gordes, Goult, Ménerbes, Bonnieux and Roussillon each have their own pretty little markets: with beautiful tomatoes, strawberries, aubergines and tapenade...
The abbey of Sénanque is an absolute must visit. In Gordes, this Cistercian monastery, still in operation, was founded in 1148. It is surrounded by fields of lavender.
Make your first flight in a hot air balloon in the Luberon. I can arrange a flight for you. It is magnificent, you will fly over the ochre cliffs of Roussillon and the lavender fields.
Visit the medieval Palais des Papes in Avignon, just 30 minutes by car, the Avignon bridge and the Lambert collection of contemporary art at the Hôtel de Caumont
If you like cycling, the Luberon Natural Park has many cycle paths. With itineraries from Mont Ventoux to Le Mourre Nègre.

Delightful, enthusiastic Emmanuelle, once a journalist, now mother of three young children, moved from Lyon to the Luberon in 2017, in search of sunshine and a rural life. She and her husband immersed themselves in a two-year renovation. Emmanuelle speaks enough English to chat to her guests, encourages you to help yourselves to the veg patch, and welcomes you with a bottle of rosé.
