The Experience
You will unwind: interiors are restful, with neutral colours, stone tiles and from every room, beautiful views. Downstairs is an L-shaped open-plan living room with games and books, a dining room and kitchen. Everything a cook might want is in here, including a hand mixer, baking tins, cooking pots and lots of cookery books. Basics are left in the cupboards and also eggs, a bottle of wine, fresh fruit (such as figs from the garden) and flowers.
Four terraces give you plenty of places to sit quietly with a book under a tree, or to eat outdoors in the sun or shade. You’ll find it wonderful here too for lazy evenings watching the stars come out in this remote place. The pool with a view is a good size and sits below the house on a further terrace with comfy loungers.
A quick drive, or half hour walk will take you to Seillans which has cafes, restaurants and shops, museums and several galleries. Fayence, bigger, can be seen in the distance (15-minute drive).

We spent a glorious four weeks at Basetxe and were honestly heartbroken to leave. The house is perfectly equipped and laid out. The views are endlessly stunning and we spent hours just sat on the terrace gazing at the horizon. All the furniture - and, crucially, the beds - are extremely comfy, and Jackie was a fabulous host, at the end of a text when we needed her. The location is great, a good-sized walk or nippy drive into the lovely village, and only an hour to Nice/Cannes (if you can bear to leave). We'd be back in a heartbeat, as would our dog, who adored it too.

We had a fantastic week at Basetxe. The house had everything we needed including some lovely supplies and a bottle of wine on arrival. The location is amazing: just a 20-25 minute walk from the village, but secluded in the tree-lined hills above Seillans. Jacqui has paid attention to a lot of details that can easily be missed in a rental villa, so that you will feel very at home from the minute you arrive. The villa stayed cool in the evenings thanks to its position among the trees, where we could look down on Fayence in the distance each evening. We will happily return!

I have finally found the hilltop Provencal stone cottage of my dreams...The perfect getaway, hidden from view, but just a quick drive to gorgeous artistic villages if I needed them.

Secluded getaway - Absolute bliss - A true ‘get away from it all’ holiday. The stone cottage was cool even in the height of the summer and very well equipped throughout - plenty of space for everyone to find their ‘favourite’ spot - reading, sleeping, watching movies and hanging by the pool - Our kids ages 14 & 11yrs loved the remote location up the track, and had a great time in the pool with ‘mini swimming races’ each day - highlights for us were the massive skies, evening star gazing and fabulous views - Already looking at when we can come back!

Location
The neighbourhood
The surrounding countryside is smothered in wildflowers in spring and the trees are laden with figs in summer. There is wonderful walking in any direction. Just a 10-minute drive is a lake in St Cassien for all sorts of water sports, but the coast is just 50 minutes away at Théoule-sur-Mer or Fréjus. Bargemon, a 20-minute drive, is a typical bustling Provencal village, Le Muy marks the start of the wine route.
Local points of interest from Jacqui Garro
- Charming villages of Seillans, Fayence, Bargemon and Mons are close by all with good selection of restaurants
- A short drive away on a picturesque road the Route du Muy has some of the best local Rose vineyards to visit as well as some stunning hikes.
- Lac de St Cassien is a 40 minutes drive offering rowing, walks and a water park
- There are many local markets nearby and the local farm prepares a weekly basket of fresh vegetables
- Walk around the 5000 square metres of land, sample the fresh figs from August then head down to Seillans which is a 25 minute walk. Save some energy for the 40 minute walk back up the hill!
- Enjoy the daily visits of the local gliders which float mesmerisingly above the property. Watch out also for some local wildlife - deer, wild boar and fox

Introducing
Jacqui Garro
Jacqui (Scottish) and Alex (Basque) have had most of their careers in yachting, but they've always had a bit of a thing about the hills of the Var. They love their dogs and walking them in these wonderful hills. They live about an hour away but will welcome you. Someone else pops over to check the pool regularly during the week.
What a fabulous place to stay. A wonderful, idyllic stone bergerie with pool sits on a lovely quiet forested hill overlooking the valley towards lovely Fayence , above the beautiful village of Seillans. The terraced grounds offer plenty of pretty spots to sit and admire the view and there's great outdoor eating space too. It's well designed and furnished. The kitchen is kitted out for those of us who like to cook. The living and dining spaces are perfect. The track from the main road to the cottage is not for low hung cars but the owners make that clear. It's properly dog friendly too.
